Why are my friends invisible but no one else
Why is it like every other time I join my friends to skate one or more of them are invisible but none of the random other people in the server

It is most likely a latency issue from the servers on their side unless you have it happening even when you are the one inviting people to your group.
I have actually seen this server side before the game was in the current state and mostly it stays like this until you are in the same "instance" as the actually person you are playing with. This is mainly only applicable when in a co-op sessions but it could be that the settings you have applied are rendering to many instances in game.
Their is a option to actually use less ram with applying a feature of allowing cars and pedestrians to not be in the game as apply-able in settings but majority of people just apply these settings of default but it is food for thought.
