A Game that punishes the casual.

A game that punishes that casual.

As a huge Star Wars fan, my anticipation for Battlefront 2 was truly immense, to say the least.
When i saw that there was a custom arcade mode, i experienced elation over the notion that the Star Wars game i have dreamed of has finally come. Much like it’s predecessor, however, i have been sorely let down again. Despite what the developers may say, this game is not accessible for the casual player. I feel that I am being punished for not investing time in becoming a skilled player. This punishment is that I am not able to enjoy playing as my favorite Star Wars heroes because I am not, “skilled enough.” Yes, you may play as heroes in the arcade mode but it is a watered down version of the multilayer offering. Only half the maps are available and vehicles aren’t an option. As someone with a full time job, mortgage, and other responsibilities, (and therefore limited time to hone my gaming skills) it is saddening to pay money for this only to be told, “if you are not skilled enough,” here are the scraps for you to play with.” A game should be accessible and fun, and that fun should not have to be a privilege. Why isn’t the Arcade mode more fleshed out? I understand that multiplayer can be a challenge to balance effectively for all players. Therefore, arcade mode should offer access to all the content available in multiplayer so that the casual player can have fun simply recreating their favorite Star Wars battles with heroes, vehicles and all. Only then will this game be truly accessible.

I agree. This is especially true about heroes. Only the best players get them, and once they have them, their winning streaks are only enhanced. Heroes should go back to random spawns.

I strongly disagree. You can improve your skills easily. Even if you're an under average player, you can still accumulate points and spawn as a hero. Issue with battlefront now is the overpriced upgrades

I somewhat agree with the OP. When I first started, I had the worst guns and no idea of what classes to play in what scenario or what skills to focus on or what to do. And I found myself on the bottom of the scoreboard with no fun toys to play with.

Then I watched streamers, especially Sacriel . I learned what they were doing to gain battle points and now I get enough to play a hero every match and sometimes two.

I quickly watched my position rise from the bottom, to the middle, to the top of the leader board.

Last night for the first time I got top score for my team a couple times and even got a MVP in galactic assault.

A lot of it is just figuring out what to do. The biggest part is figuring what classes are OP for what and playing to their strengths.

But now that my heavy has half the cool downs on his abilities, I can sentry every time the objective gets exposed rather than every other time. Now that my officer has a better pistol I can win gun fights I couldn't before.

So there is definitely a component of progression enabling progression. Power enabling power.

This all said... I'm not the most skilled player. I'm over 30 and my reflexes aren't what they used to be. I'm winning by playing smart (and I don't mean farming space ships!!) and using the right tools in the right scenario.

I feel like if people take the time to learn the tricks I'm using, anyone can be successful in the game even if they only put a casual amount of time towards it.

That said... most people are not going to do that. And if you lose your casual player-base, the game dies.

I really think they need to revamp the heroes regen and make it so that the heroes are more available. I actually prioritized getting my enforcer leveled up before doing any heroes because unless you are at the top of the board you probably won't get a turn on them if your team is doing well. That said, if you get good at enforcer or aerial they are both a lot of fun. I love the wookie enforcer and average at least one major vehicle or hero kill per turn on one of those.

  • Developers have said they will be expanding arcade mode, but it doesn't look like anything is on the calendar for December. A new Campaign story is coming so thats nice. However, everyone should keep pushing for.
    Starfighter Assault offline mode.
New modes and Maps for Custom Arcade
Make Multiplayer modes into offline modes
  • Thanks for taking the time to post, because of reviews like this I have decided to not purchase this game and instead watched all the cutscenes put together by other players as a movie.

It saved me hours of game play and $80 plus whatever else I would have been spending to get to the other characters.

Have to say the scenes were amazing and the art work was gorgeous.

Glad to have saved my money though and time, it's my most precious commodity with all the work I have to do.

imo the weapon mods unlock is where the grind is, heros is not a big deal since u actually need abilities for them.
