Battlefront 2 launches then immediately closes

I installed Battlefront 2 on Steam on Friday 11-27-20.  When I clicked Play the screen did the normal flickering to black as though it were opening the game but just stopped.  I kept pushing play and it still would not even get to the main screen of the game.  Steam seems to think it actually opened as it would show time played in small increments and increased every time I pushed play, I have yet to see the main screen and Steam shows Play time as 32 minutes.  There were a couple of times when I had thought it worked and the main screen actually started to come up, but it would just sit there for maybe a minute and then close again.  It just feels like the game is launching and immediately closing itself.  It seems to only be Battlefront 2 that this is happening to me on, my other games on steam open fine and my other EA games are also okay.  I have no idea what could be affecting just this one game.  I have noticed that my games seem to think that when I go to play then that it is the first time as I have to agree to the user agreement again, this happened when I tried to open Battlefront again today.

  • Sorry I have not replied in awhile, I decided to take my computer to a shop to see if it was the problem since I had other games crash on me.  I apparently had a bad CPU.  Everything appears to be working now I am able to play the game.

  • Hey, @WindWolfBlaze  make sure that all drivers for windows are up to date, also worth to reinstall the GPU drivers for your PC.

You can also try to do a clean boot to see if there any programs messing with Star Wars: Battlefront2 and turn off any overlay programs for example Discord or Nvidia experience.

Can you add a Dxdiag so we can see what hardware and drivers you have?

Let me know if this works or not for you. 🙂

  • @EA_Atic I updated my graphics driver after I found the game would not launch.  I will try the clean boot, I don't think I have any overlay programs except for GeoForce Experience, thank you.

    Cheers for the update! @WindWolfBlaze

    Can you try the following.

    • Turn off Origin in-game.
    • Turn of Xbox game bar in windows.
    • Run Origin and SWBF as admin.
    • Add SWBF2 as an exception to any anti-virus/firewall
    • Turn off anti-virus/firewall
    • Removed SWBF2 exe and then run repair in Origin.
    • Remove the SWBF2 document folder in documents and then turn off Origin cloud sync for SWBF2. (it removes settings and it removes the single player and arcade progression)

  • @EA_Atic I tried everything mentioned except the last 2.  I am not sure what you mean by remove in this context.  I deleted the SWBF2 exe, but then I could not do anything with the game.  I uninstalled and reinstalled the game.  Am I supposed to do something other than delete them to remove.

    Thank you,

@WindWolfBlaze Delete/remove the exe and run Repair in Origin will replace the EXE in the past we have seen this work.

When you uninstall games they typically don't remove the document folder, and old document folder for games can cause and issue and something we have seen with SWBF2,

I tried deleting the exe file again but when I would right click on the game in origin the option for repair was not there.  It was there for my other games and before I deleted the exe file.  I am not sure how to run the repair when the exe file is gone.  I then uninstalled the game and deleted the Documents folder and reinstalled the game.  It still won't launch.

Looks like we updated Origin with how its tracking the exe files, my bad. @WindWolfBlaze

Can you try another Windows account with Admin rights and see if that works.
