battlefront II resolution won't change

I downloaded Battlefront II the other day and when I tried to play today I was unable to change the game resolution (I have a 4K monitor, but I wanted to put the resolution lower so I could use higher graphics settings). During the download, I played around with arcade mode and was able to change the resolution then, but now I cannot in the full game. What will happen is that I will select a lower resolution, the screen will flicker and it will ask me if I want to keep the changes. When I click Yes, the screen flickers again and it's set to 4K still. All other graphics options seem to still be changeable.

I'm using BootCamp Windows 10 on a 2017 21.5-in 4K iMac, 3.4GHz Intel Core i5, 8GB 2400 MHz DDR4 RAM, Radeon Pro 560 4 GB.

To use Battlefront II, I changed the version numbers of the Radeon driver in the Registry Editor (Apple is slow to update drivers officially), and all was well playing arcade during the download, but I don't know if that would effect the complete game; I'd figure not, but still. I was also wondering if another program might be conflicting with BF2 in the background, but no other programs were running that should be controlling the resolution.

I also tried to set the resolution using a line command in the preferences (-r:XXXXxYYYY), but that did nothing.

  • @AeroJett Hello,

First of all, try to run a clean boot on your PC and check if you can change the resolution in the game.

    https://help.ea.com/tr/help/faq/how-to-clean-boot-your-pc/

Also, I recommend to disable origin in game overlay in application settings of origin and in Game Properties in your Game Library.

If that doesn't help you, try to change your resolution manually by editing ProfileOptions_profile file in your Documents (My Documents)>>Star Wars Battlefront 2>> Settings folder.

    Thanks!

@AeroJett I'm having the same issue with my bootcamp iMac  (latest AMD drivers from bootcampdrivers.com).  I'm going to try @IIPrest0nII suggestions.

One workaround is to set your desktop to the resolution you want the game to run in.  SW BF II seems to lock to my desktop resolution.  It's an option of last resort since you will have to do it every time you play or leave your desktop at non-retina resolution.

  • @AeroJett  what  @IIPrest0nII    recommended worked for me after I turned off Origin overlay.  However, my recommended steps would be   ⚽ install newest AMD non-apple drivers at bootcampdrivers.com  🏈  set your desktop resolution to what you want in the game   🏀   run the game and verify it is in the resolution you want.  (4)  follow @IIPrest0nII instructions.  (5) change desktop back to Retina resolution   👿 verify that BF2 launched in the correct res.    (7) don't change resolution in-game once you have working.

If you hadn't asked the question, I'd still be stuck, so thank you @AeroJett and @IIPrest0nII for your advice!

I found a different solution that was right in front of my face; just change the resolution scale. I set it to 60% and tweaked the other setting around and it's running pretty well now.

Also, I'm not sure downloading the non-Apple drivers is the safest option in terms of stability; I'd seen that site mentioned elsewhere and some people had issues with the drivers, so just watch out.

At any rate, I think this is resolved (and I turned off the overlay since it just makes popup notifications anyways) so thanks for the help. =)

  • As previously stated, going to Documents\STAR WARS Battlefront II\settings and te change the values in the "ProfileOptions_profile" file should do the trick. Just open with noteblock and find the witdh and hight and adjust it.

    good luck
