Consistent controller lag on Xbox One - Unplayable

Hi, I'm trying to play Battlefront II on Xbox One S, but I can't play because of the consistent input lag. Things don't happen on screen until about 300ms after I press a button. This happens in game, as well as in the menus and even when offline and in Arcade mode. I've gone through all of EA's generic troubleshooting and none of the support agents are able to help me.

From my troubleshooting I've found it's not:

- My display: I have a high quality TV with a high refresh rate and Game mode turned on. All other games work great.

- My controller: Again, works great with every other game. Have tried wired and wireless.

- My internet: The online game modes run perfectly smooth, it's just the controller lag that's a problem. Once again, all other online games are fine.

The lag happens consistently and doesn't vary based on what I'm doing. Is this game just broken on Xbox?

I bought this game when it came out and still to date haven't been able to enjoy it because it doesn't work.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • That is an odd issue, I have not heard about it before. @ethayne

Did you try to clear local and online saves for SWBF2?

  • Thanks @EA_Atic. I just tried that and still no luck. I’ve also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game with no results.

@ethayne do you have another controller to test with do you notice the same issue?

    /Atic
  • @EA_Atic yes, tried with both controllers. Both are official Xbox controllers. And tried wired and wireless connection.

Again, no problems with any other games, including other EA games. Just this one.

    Thanks! @ethayne

hmm, just for the sake of it, try another HDMI cable or TV to try the Xbox on?

  • Hi @EA_Atic

I have this problem also, and I just read a thread on Reddit where a bunch of users are also experiencing the same issue, a simple Google Search will reveal it.  It is not an issue on other games, it is only Battlefront 2, I even downloaded Battlefront I over the weekend to test and did not have the problem.  For reference, this is the Downloaded edition, not Disc.  Samsung 65" QLED with Gaming mode enabled.  Tried HDMI direct to TV and via Receiver.  Tried different HDMI.  Tried different Input.

It happens on all controllers, all game types, mostly on Local Co-Op/Versus (but that is also mostly what we play.  Sometimes its lag/delayed movement, sometimes I'll move the stick a little and it will do a 180, its almost unplayable.  Playing against the kids is fine, as it doesn't really matter, but we can't play online or will get slaughtered.

As an AV Technician, I don't believe it is the HDMI cable.  It is local to the game, not the connected equipment.  There is an issue here which needs to be investigated and resolved, otherwise I'm going back to Destiny.

  • I've been having the same problem ever since i bought the game for xbox in the beginning of this year. I always thought it was cause the game was really big and took a lot of power to run, until I got the game on pc and realized how bad the input lag is.(this is the first time I've got a game with realistic graphics)

  • I actually came here for the same problem and actually realized that it was the controller deadzone in the settings that was to high and created the simulated lag response from the controller. I don't know if I even had the same lag problems described by you and all of the comments but I hope that if you try lowering the controller deadzone and increasing the sensitivity will help if you ever do see this response. I think the main menu will maybe still have a little bit of lag but increasing the sensitivity and lowering my controller deadzone completely solved the problem for me.
