Downloaded BF2 on external hard drive (steam version) but files delete after

Like title says I downloaded all ~80 gb of the game, and had no performance issues. But right after disconnecting the external harddrive storing BF2 for a time (i play on a laptop, please dont berate us inferior beings) i tried connecting the harddrive again and play, only to find out i have to download ALL ~80gb of the game again.

Oddly enough, the game still takes space on my external drive but it doesn't show the files in the games directory (in the steam version at least). can someone please help??? I have already downloaded the game AGAIN only to end up again having to download the whole damn thing again 

any help would be appreciated....

    Oh also the picture attached is where i think the directory is (like most EA games are in steam) but it only has two text files that i dont think do anything... Also the space in the hard drive is exactly around ~80gb if the game wasn't there and it freed space since the files just vanished out of nowhere... (unless the directory is different in SWBF 2...)

    Some files could be corrupted by dissconecting external drive but Im not sure why did it happened.
