I'm not sure if PS4 has the same issue I found on PC, nor if the PS4 controller has motion controls just like its PS3 predecessor, but I use a PS3 controller on PC to use Starfighters (actually I don't do this for ages, but I can't fly with Mouse & Keyboard, so if I decide to get a Starship I'll use a controller), and sometimes a BUG would occur that would assign my motion controls to a specific button in the Key Mapping. Because of that, just by moving, shaking, or rotating my controller, it would act as pressing said key on purpose.
It could be a BUG related to my controller software, but as it also happened because of a BUG triggered by changing from M&K to Controller and vice-versa in the same match, I believe the game can be the culprit on some cases.
You said you've put the controller away and it still triggered. Are you sure the controller sat completely still? It could be motion controls (if the PS4 controller has such a thing). However I find it unlikely, but unfortunately that's the best I can provide from my experience.
That’s interesting but I do believe it has something to do with the droidekas themselves because when I’m walking around as a normal unit or hero I won’t start sprinting randomly therefore I believe it may be the droidekas themselves.
And yes I sat my controller completely still, I layed it down on my desk and it transformed a few seconds later so even if motion controls did exist in the ps controller I don’t think they have something to do with the problem
