I am having the same problem, I was able to play two nights ago and now I can't. Come on EA help us fix this.
Just as additional information, I would suggest NOT to set the game's .exe to run as administrator, because it caused this exact issue (game crashing to desktop at launch) for me!
Running / not running as admin doesn't seem to change anything for me. Still hunting and troubleshooting, we'll find a fix!
I don' t think there's a fix. Hopefully a patch within the next month or so. Wouldn't be surprised if it costs extra though.
