gameplay review, feedback and improvement suggestions

Hey,

first of all i hope that developers or ea staff do read this. When the Alpha was released i was really hyped. The game felt really great and i wondered that all this was gone at the beta. But that were all just the first impressions. Many guys hated the game in public forums, articles, blogs after it's release and i was really skeptical.

Now that i've played the game for about 1 month i think i can really evaluate this game and i cannot confirm all those hate comments.

Yes there are still a lot of things that need to be improved or changed and yes it's a effrontery from EA to release a game that does freeze and crash for so many people, but they also changed a lot of things that were disliked at the first game.

I don't think we need to talk much about the graphics. It's quit awesome, so let's go in directly into the content.

There is nothing i can complain about in the campaign except the keyboard usage. Why do you use F2 for the collectable weapons and not the 4th star card key? And no this is not changeable since you cannot have the same key for the 4th star card and the campaign F2 function also there is no conflict.

I'm fine with the crates and credit system as well. But you already improved them when I bought the game, so there were less duplicates, more money and cheaper heroes.

The cards you get from the boxes are still a little strange, so I got from a assault box 2 officer cards, one assault and some credits. I mean it's an assault box, shouldn't there be more assault cards then officer cards? And the only assault thing was an emote.

I think the squad system is one of the main issues. Your intention was that the players stay together but it'll never work that way. You need a permanent squad to get in touch with the other players and not just for 30 seconds till the next death. If there were permanent squads i'd be even fine with the tanks and fighters that are in one squad with the soldiers.

Further there needs to be a voice chat with push to talk for the squad. Remove the party voice chat that 1st is too quiet (there needs to be an option to increase the voice sound and the microphone sensitivity) and 2nd not necessary since those who know each other better and play together already have discord or teamspeak to communicate.

Players in one party should be in one squad of course. To increase the incentive to stay together in the squad i'd like to see a squad spawn ability. So you can spawn at your squad behind the enemy lines if 1st all alive members stay together (except fighters and tanks), 2nd the squad is not under fire (like the swbf1 partner spawn) and 3rd there are at least 2 members left on the battlefield, so there cannot be 1 player and in the next second there are 4. This depends on the number of squad members, so if there are only 2 in one squad they should be able to spawn together, too.

Another problem is the team balance. It's not fair that one team has a limit amount of reinforcements. That way team 1 has just an tdm objective and team 2 needs to transport, or destroy something and in addition they need to stay alive. So add limited reinforcements to both sides, or do it with an timer.

For example I played galactic assault on crait and we needed to conquer a place that was in the middle of the battle with no cover. We were limited in the reinforcements and the other were not. Furthermore they needed just one(!!) in the area, so we couldn't conquer anymore while the others shot at use from all around. That's something we couldn't win.

My improvement ideas: there is a timer let's say 5 minutes. both teams can conquer the point. If one of the team has more players in the area they continue conquering. If the balance changes the new dominating team needs to conquer for the same time the previous team does and after that they can conquer for themselves.

So there is an conquer scale from -100% to +100% if the timer is out before one team won this conquer you can find the winner depending on the conquer scale. But please add the extension time you introduced in this game. it's a great idea.

Something that I noticed is that the jumptrooper can jump while he carries the datapads. He just needs both of his jumps and he reaches the deliver point. He shouldn't be able to jump with the datapad.

That's all for the multiplayer's content. But it would be nice if there were more gamemods such as ctf.

So let's talk about single player now.

There is much more content than there was for swbf1 and I really enjoy it. But you should add coop for all those arcade games. And I'd love to play the campaign in coop as well. There are always two characters together while the campaign, so it should be possible to change the campaign to make one of the coop partners ideen and the other one the companion.

That's all I can say after the first gameplay hours and I really hope that you will fix and improve the things I mentioned above.

  • Allow me to review this game after playing around 2 weeks.

Note: I played on standard PS4 so some of my comments may be irrelevant to PC users. Also sorry for the bad English.

    FIRST IMPRESSION

As someone who really likes Star Wars, I find this game pretty cool and fun. Yes, there are indeed controversies regarding the loot box, but I honestly think the game is worthed now after the dev disabled the option to purchase crystals and make it easier for players to unlock certain character. Heck, I even bought the standard edition and I unlocked all heroes except chewbacca less than a week.

Yes, people are also complaining about the star cards that give player slightly more edge than others. I believe that this is not really the case because you could get killed really fast even though your star card is at max level (true story). Hell, I even used Darth Vader once and only last maybe about a minute ☹️. It really depends on your teamwork and personal skill.

    PERFORMANCE

Because I played on the standard PS4, it is no surprise that there are some FPS drops especially on maps like Endor and Kashyyyk plus all the explosions and lighting effects. But most of the times I didn't even notice the FPS drop because of the immersion and it does not really affect your aim whatsoever. Overall, the game is very playable.

    CAMPAIGN

I finished the main campaign + resurrection for around 7 hours with the highest difficulty (Special Forces). I liked the story, progression, plot twist, and so on. It gives you some kind of cinematic vibe that would make you immersed in the story.

    MULTIPLAYER

I agree with @GT-Anakin, the squad system does not really work because no one actually gives a damn about the squad if you are playing with stranger lol. Permanent squad and the ability to spawn near the squad is a nice change. And currently I don't really feel any difference in the credits given whether I won or not (Someone please confirm this). I think it would be nicer if the dev could give more incentive to the winning team by giving more credits.

Here are some problem I encountered during my gameplay:

    • For the love of God, please fix Palpatine's lightning. It could damage players through wall. I'm not entirely sure if this is the ACTUAL mechanic of the game but I think this is messed up and should be fixed soon. Being on the light side with defense objective inside a closed room vs palpatine sucks a lot.
    • I've noticed that a lightsaber's tip could go through game objects such as wall if the hero is really close to it.
    • Speeders and other vehicles could 1 hit kill by going through players. Its really frustating when you spent 3000 battle points or more and got killed by these things which are cheaper by far (300 for a speeder).
    • There is no option to turn on/off lightsaber manually - This does not critically affect gameplay, but it could be useful to add stealth elements and prevent enemies to spot you from far away (plus going through a dark place using Darth Vader and suddenly surprise your enemy by igniting your lightsaber is pretty dope).

    FUTURE IDEAS

    • Add more heroes (Anakin, Mace Windu, Count Dooku, General Grievous, and so on)
    • More weapons
    • Add more maps and other iconic places
    • Cosmetics (would be nice if you could change the appearance of a class from helmet, armor, and so on)
  • cosmetic would be nice for gameplay (i'd die for a Republic Commando), but i'd prefer the origin avatar for the winning screen.

About your idea more credits for the winning team, i'd correct this to more credits for objective play. So often that there is only two or three good players in the other team and you have no support in yours.

I just noticed that i posted this in the technical issue forum. Maybe a moderator can move this in the feedback section
