I’m having the same problem. At launch I could do it just fine but it stopped working after a few days.

I believe there are at least 40 posts similar to this one about the emotes not working via right d-pad and in some cases such as Leia and Iden both right and left d-pad. Yes I could always do this first but now I can not do it anymore. Some information from my Iden Versio:

I’m not 100% sure about this but I think it was before patch, I remember wondering if it was fixed, but I could be wrong. And it was also very suddenly, the emote was playing just fine and then in the next match I played I just couldn’t use it anymore. Interesting what you said about the star cards, I remember unlocking something for her, I think it was an emote, I equipped it and tried to use it later but it just didn’t work, I think that’s when it happened.I have only two emotes for her: “hope cannot save them” and “avenge our emperor”. I was able to use the first just fine but after I unlocked the second one Iden’s emotes never played again. I’m not 100% sure about any of this, trying really hard to remember here but I think that’s it, I hope this is useful.

Iden, isn’t the only Hero with broken Emotes (on the PS4 at least). Both of Leia and Iden’s emotes don’t work on either button, and with Phasma, the right d-pad emote doesn’t work.

@King-Quinton187 Yes that's true, there are a few heroes affected by the emote issue. Unfortunately I don't have any news on this, but I wanted to acknowledge your extra info.

iden versio/two cards go with 1 emote.1 card with 2 emotes.nothing more than three.

I found it hard to come by

Unequip one or 2 cards and emotes will work as they should, that's the only workaround for now.

Unequip and re-equip? Or I need play as Iden without star cards?

This exact same thing happens to me as well... I like playing as her on Galactic Assault as usual and every time I pick her I'm like cool, lemme kill some rebels and express myself by saying "Hope, cannot save them!", but then I remember that my emotes for her don't work at all... I have unlocked all of her emotes but none of them seem to work at all... I then tried Heroes vs. Villains and still had no luck. All my trooper emotes that I have unlocked so far work, and all my other heroes/villains' emotes that I have unlocked so far also work so I'm pretty annoyed that Iden's emotes don't work. I thought maybe I'll try arcade, and it would have to work in there, what do you know... It doesn't work. BUT... Just about 2 days ago, Iden's "Hope, cannot save them!" emote started working, but that's about it, no other emotes of hers is working but I am pretty grateful for at least one emote of hers working...
And to be honest, I'm never the negative guy about this game because I love it and have ever since the release, but this issue just really got to my nerves but once this issue is fixed, it isn't too much to ask for a little apology gift... Like a helmetless Iden appearance for multiplayer for example ? Haha, just taking my shot.

March 6th of 2018 and none of my Iden Versio emotes are working... Tried turning off my PS4, etc. Nothing changes. It doesn't matter what the game mode is. They don't work 100% of the time.

You need to remove 1 or 2 starcards, then you'll be able to play them correctly.

This bug is annoying me until now, even after the updates, please Dice, fix it.
1 emote just works if I play with just 2 star cards.
If I play with 3 Star cards, any emote works.
