[PC][Battlefront 2] Refresh rate not correct at game start or after alt-tab

Product: Star Wars Battlefront II
Platform:PC
What is your issue related to? General
Summarize your bug When starting Battlefront 2, the refresh rate is very low and not as configured in the video options. I have to manually change the refresh rate (even though it is set correctly to 100 or 120Hz in the game options) and then revert the change to get the proper refresh rate. Same when I alt tab to windows and back to the game. I had the same issue with Battlefield 1 but it has been fixed with the operation campaign patch in November 17. The update note in Battlefield 1 regarding this issue was:" "Fixed an issue that reset Vsync refresh rates to the desktop refresh rate." Could you please include this fix in your upcoming patches? Thanks
What is your gamertag/PSN ID/EA Account name? 7Fanta7
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Can you tell us the date (MM/DD/YYYY) that you saw the bug? 11/14/2017
What time did you see the bug? (HH:MM AM/PM) 10:10 PM
In what game mode did the bug occur? Campaign
What is your time zone? ECT - GMT + 1:00
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? For me it happens every time I start the game. I have a RAdeon 290 with drivers Driver Packaging Version 17.30.1091.1011-170922a-318503C-CrimsonReLive. This issue happened with all previous version of the drivers too. On Battlefield 1, it was fixed with the last patch so I assume the bug is on the Battlefront 2 side.
What happens when the bug occurs? I need to go to Video option. Change the refresh rate. Press return to make the change effective. Click No to keep the previous refresh rate. After that the refresh rate is set correctly.
What do you expect to see? I expect the game to start with the refresh rate configured in the video options. Also when I alt tab to window and back to the game, I expect the refresh rate to be the correct one

I also have this issue, just as the OP describes. I set my resolution to 1280x960 at 100Hz, but everytime I load the game or if I alt-tab out of it, it changes to 75Hz. The setting does not change in the options, but I notice the flickering and my monitor's OSD shows 75Hz. To fix it I need to change a video setting in the options and when it asks "Do you want to keep these settings" I say no and it reverts to the proper setting. Kind of annoying as I have to do this with each load. I don't have this issue with any other game.

  • This is still a problem in Star Wars Battlefront II. Sometimes, it is not just the refresh rate or frame rate going down, but the game can crash also. I have had this multiple times not only in multiplayer, but also in arcade.

  • Hey, @7Fanta7 Thanks for the information.

I use 164Hz monitor my self I know I had set it up on the control panel for my GPU drivers and then windows. I'm going to assume that you have done that?

Old thread that is still unresolved...

However, I just got a new monitor with 144 Hz refresh so I'm suddenly very interested (LOL) and am having the same issue as the OP. Refresh rate will vary between 60 and 144 when I have video options set for 144.

I'm assuming you are talking about setting the refresh rate in the NVIDIA control panel. There is no refresh rate in Windows - at least with the 1909 version I have. Are you referring to something else?

@DarthFDG  Yes in the Nvidia controller you can set your refresh rate on what you want to use. I wounder clean installing the drivers for the GOU would help.

I personally don't have this issue my self.  So it's odd.

    Thanks, @EA_Atic

Just to be clear - you're saying your refresh rate consistently stays at 164 Hz the entire time you are in SWBF2?

No and that is where the game is loading it jumps above it - now I don't have always 164fps going but not seen it go above it. @DarthFDG

Its going below 164 that we're questioning. The issue called out here is that Hz refresh rate (not FPS, as I erroneously stated) is dipping well below what is configured in game.
