Re: Address Toxicity Issues

@TheGamerSeal

Thanks for the feedback. I'm very sorry for all the frustration. None of us like to play with toxic people. We also hate seeing toxic behavior on our forums. Which is why we're quite stringent about removing those posts and punishing people for them. When it comes to in-game behavior, there are many times people are banned or suspended. However, it's a matter of privacy so we don't inform the public of what action is taken on which players. The best you can do is report them by following the steps in this article. When you report someone, there will be no follow up to tell you what has been done. Personally, I have seen a very high amount of players that have had action taken on their accounts for various reasons. We don't just sit idle and let anyone do whatever they want, but we also have millions of players and don't quite catch them all.

Also, we need to be clear about what toxic behavior is. Your example of a player using the Thrust Surge repeatedly would possibly be an exploit of a game mechanic. That's a lot different than someone having an offensive player name or using in-game communication to harass and bully others. The later would be toxic while the former would be exploiting a game mechanic. We certainly don't encourage exploiting the game of course, but it's not really considered toxic when compared to someone harassing other players or creating offensive content. Regardless, we want to remove as much of both of those as possible.

We are taking a bigger stance on toxic behavior and working to minimize it as much as possible going forward. While we don't have anything we can share currently, I can assure you this is a very big focus with EA right now.

  • @EA_Aljo Hello, Aljo. I'm sure that EA does deal with the problem to an extent, but regardless of that, I still believe the reporting player should know what action is being taken. Reporting a player, at least for me, feels like suing someone and taking them to court, but being told to leave the courtroom during the proceedings - it feels wrong.

    On the matter of the player I mentioned (Gamertag removed), I seriously doubt that he was exploiting a game mechanic. He is the only person I have witnessed cheating in this manner. In addition, I've found that cheaters usually come with toxic behavior in the form of bullying and/or harassing, and this player is no exception. As far as the actual cheating goes, I'm going to look into how the player was cheating after I finish this reply.

    In closing, I'd like to address the last paragraph of your post. You tell me that the company is taking a stance on toxicity; however, that brings me no reassurance, knowing that official representatives of EA, which I mentioned in the original post, are not above firing back at people. It does not calm me to hear that EA is working to eliminate toxicity due to my experience with EA_Atic.

    I look forward to hearing back from you.

    P.S. Still ready to throw down $20.00 (in-game price) for those pre-order appearances. Just read my other posts, I'm not the only one with this sentiment.

    Edit: Removed gamertag. It is against the AHQ rules to name and shame - CM

    Cheating is one thing...   Swearing is another.   People who talk smack and swear can easily be ignored, that part is on you.

    Thank you for your feedback. I don't have anything else to share with you currently, but we are working on reducing toxicity. Keep an eye on our official channels for updates.

  • @EA_Aljo With all due respect... this sounds like a copy-paste response to my concern. I'd like to discuss this further, if you don't mind.

    @TheGamerSeal

    It's most definitely not a copied and pasted response. You're welcome to post your thoughts here and we can continue this discussion.

  • Toxic. I hate the word. It came around about 5 years ago and now it's one of the most overused. Overused and misused.

  • @alwe15 Hm. What other word would you use to describe people who have nothing better to do than harass people just trying to play a game, then?

    Sad.

    Although your original post was referencing cheats and profanity. Not harassment. 🤔

  • @alwe15 Cheating, profanity, hate-speech, harassment... I'm talking about the whole book and its extended universe here.

    Each of which have their own names for description.

    I'm not arguing that your use of the word is necessarily wrong. Just, overused. Very overused.

  • @alwe15 Hm, sorry. I'll try to be more poetic when discussing the wretched and chaotic individuals of the world that plague the universal network with their foul mannerisms.

    Hehe, kidding you, of course.

    Please do be. It would be toxic to not 😉

  • Sorry but I don’t believe you. Reporting players via console especially Xbox does NOTHING. Players sending messages that would get anyone thrown in jail for years or sued into oblivion - just go on and do as they please.

    This malaise by EA sends a clear message to bullies: have at it, there will be no consequences.

    it’s time for EA to shape up.

  • It’s 3 years later and the toxicity continues. EA won’t do anything. Guess that’s one of the many reasons they lost the Star Wars license.
