Forum Discussion
Yes, some communication that goes beyond a shoulder shrug would be helpful. At least one of the forum members was chastised last week for spamming the boards with our issue, saying it was unnecessary because the dev team was aware of the issue. The level of communication we've received to this point would indicate otherwise. It's been a week, the crickets are getting tired. We're not asking for a lot at this point, just a return of the crate, something we already had, and a definitive time frame of when it will be removed again. Communication, please.
Why do we feel compelled to plea and beg for what is rightfully owed or for even the simplest communication from a developer. Taking the crates away without any notification whatsoever even though the question had been asked directly if they would be taken away in the EA Star Wars Battlefront II Forums. Was this the wrong place to ask? Where would be the most appropriate place to ask then and to actually be able to get a direct answer? WHERE?

Hey guys, I was pretty sure this was going to happen so I wasted all of my credits on getting parts. This has sucked now that the new skins are out, but maybe that was the plan so that we would be forced to spend money on the crystals? I know its easy to say screw all of it, but we have seen that EA is truly trying to fix all the issue they have had. I feel that we have given them the benefit of the doubt a whole lot and it's my hope this is the last issue for us as a group. I can deal with the fact there is no way to "buy" emotes, the OP nature of Chewbacca and Palpie, but we really should get a reply from someone that knows how to fix this. My buddy Pete said he posted here: https://battlefront-forums.ea.com/discussion/113502/almost-a-solid-week-and-nothing-loss-of-compensation-crates#latest - but I see there are other posts on the board that people are posting at. I just hope this gets resolved at some point.

I just think they have an administrative structure that doesn't think about consequences when they make decisions. We have a city council like that in my city, and they've been in so many stupid lawsuits just because someone says "let's do that" and someone else says, "sure", and no one asks, "will there be negative consequences if we march in and do this?" In one of the other threads, someone drew attention to the fact that none of this would have happened if BF2 had started with a normal progression system rather than the "spend money on crates" dealio they tried to hand to us. It wasn't rocket science to know this was going to be a PR fiasco, but they did it anyway, and they've been dealing with the fallout ever since. Just when we thought they'd finally done something to appease the tikked-off masses, they go and tikk us all off again. Like honestly, WHO is making these decisions?

FYI, F8RGE response from the main forum:
Hey everyone,
Just wanted to spend a few minutes talking about the compensation crate that went live recently.
As I’m sure you’re aware, there was an issue where players were unable to scrap duplicate star cards that they received. Later on, we ran some scripts on the back end that would convert all the stored duplicate cards into credits.
This worked well but for some players, they wanted to level their characters and credits would not allow this.
We then brought a system into the game that would allow you to trade 40 crafting parts for one skill part. This would allow players who received the large amount of credits from the duplicate trade-in to purchase crates of crafting points.
We recently released this compensation crate. There was however, some uncharted territory to go along with this. We did not know how an overabundance of parts would react on an account. The last thing we wanted was to have hundreds of them, sat there with nothing to spend them on. This is why we limited it to 100 crates.
The crate was released, and everything was going fine, but we then found a problem where parts were breaking account history. As a result, there was a risk of them causing corruption in the future, so we had to begin the process of removing them from the game.
Looking at our in-game telemetry we can see that the vast majority of players were able to purchase their crates.
Throughout all the planning that went into the compensation crate, one of the fundamental things that was missed was the announcement of when it would be ending. We’re currently working through our post mortem and this will be an area of focus for us.We are looking at an alternative, and safe way to convert credits into levelling up characters. Once we have more information on this we will let you know.
Edit: I added the source and edited the text for better reading. Thanks for posting it here. - EA_Ataashi

There's some seriously sketchy communication going on here.
Let me see if I got the steps here....
- Silence. Supposedly to get real answers before commenting, though we don't even get a "hang in there I'm getting an actual answer"
- It was intentional. No further details. Some indication on the other board that it was not only intentional but also maybe the end of the matter.
- it was because it was a bug. Suddenly, it's more detail than the answer we waited to get.
At this point my only thought is that if they're using a phrase like "convert credits into levelling up characters" then maybe MAYBE someone actually sees what the problem has been and we'll get an actual level-up option to directly address the problems caused by the crate bug.

It would be nice if there was a level up option, but would it be retro-active for all of the skill points already spent? What about characters/ships that have been maxed out? What kind of time frame are we looking at? A lot of questions here, it would be nice if we got some answers, or at least an idea of when we can expect answers.
- 8 years ago@grimmace2 To be honest, no I thought if anything we would be asking about the smaller bug fixes that have plagued the game for almost a year.
I did have a sneaking suspicion that I should spend all my credits on parts, but I also thought... Nah, no way, that would be like kicking a man in the crotch after trying to forcefully remove his testicles. I mean, why would they continue to rain misery down on the people who patiently (for the most part) waited six months for a progression bug that severely hindered their advancement in the game. It really defies the odds of "#@!t happens" No one individual or group should have to suffer as much right?
Ugh, I guess I spoke too soon. I am happy to be here with you guys though, you are my Star Wars brethren and some really amazing people if I do say so myself.

-------- reply to -----Thanks Paodok! Haven't seen you 'round these parts in a while 😉 Did you ever think we would STILL be fighting this fight seven months later? Thanks for the link, I have commented/bumped it to maintain exposure. All help is appreciated!

On a side note, I wanted to share with you guys and EA, a short story that makes me sad when I think of what might have been. Now, mind you, this is from my perspective and a little bit of a pinprick in the overall corkboard of public opinion.
When I first started playing the original Star Wars Battlefront, I searched for a group of gamers to play with, at first I tried Reddit, which was way too huge and many of the threads got convoluted with back and forth about things unrelated. I then decided to check the Star Wars groups on Xbox. The first suggestion of Xbox was a group with over 75k in members, again too big. At this point, I was starting to give up a little, until one day I was invited to join a small but growing Star Wars group on Xbox. It had roughly 500 members and seemed to have people like me who were huge fans of the game as well as being competitive in playing Star Wars games. Over the next year, we grew to 3500 members with 100 being added each day. In the weeks before the first Beta for Star Wars Battlefront 2, there was excitement in the air, and even after the Beta people were jacked!
When the loot box issue hit, I noticed it pretty much divided the group, with the admins of the group trying to smooth over the feelings that many of the "new" gamers had about EA and this "pay-to-win" service. I can remember spending many hours debating this issue with others, and when the option to buy crystals was removed about 15% of the people never came back to the game. We started to have a net loss of members each month. By the time the first patch hit we were around 3200 members, the group was still debating the loot issue, but now the main issue was the ungodly amount of bugs the game had. Broke, broke and broke was all people talked about.
With each new patch, there seemed to be more and more bugs as well as many that were never addressed since game launch. It got harder and harder for anyone to smooth over the sentiment that this game was dead and that it seemed like EA didn't care at all. It was March or April when many of the admins started stepping down as well as loosing about 10-15 people per day. The group still worked on recruitment, but the pool of "new gamers" was dry and what the admins were finding is people who had been around for a while but just hadn't join the group. Most if not all of them were already upset for different reasons about the game so the squads and group parties were toxic every day. I believe at this point things became so toxic that no one wanted to squad up anymore, they wanted to avoid others who they thought might rage about EA or the game. I ended up leaving the group around this time because of the toxic atmosphere with everyone, even the admins. I believe that it would have been a different story had the game not had so many issues, but my rose colored glass view of anything Star Wars makes me think that positivity breeds positivity. This group now has 2100 members and many groups created after it has twice as many members, so maybe some of the fault lies in the messengers?
I still play the game each day, with a smaller group of people, I even decided to start my own Xbox Star Wars group, based on positivity and encouragement of other members. It has only 150 members and I believe almost all of them still LOVE Star Wars and this game. I just wonder how things might have been if only this game wasn't rushed out.

@Paodok Well said I think your story played out close to the same way for many of us. I know that almost all of the people who played the original Star Wars Battlefront with me a couple years ago. All of them all play the game like Fortnite and Pubg. It could be that those games would have attached those people anyway, but I think when it wasn't "fun" anymore many of the casual gammers just walked away from it all. I know I find it hard to be positive, you give me hope that maybe I will find my positive thoughts for Star Wars again.
- Anonymous8 years ago
Well said as usual @Paodok
I personally am finding it harder and harder every day just to log in get my 500 credits and get more than one match in before I loose interest. Don't get me wrong I love star wars but the way everything is being handled is making me sick. Those of you that have been on this thread a while know I have mentioned many times about walking away from this game but my love of star wars keep's stopping me. However, I think it is happening slowley. 90% of my friends that played this game have been gone a while and only one of them had the duplicate issue. I - all of us here have hung on a lot longer. But how long can I - we really hang in there? How many ppl will season 3 bring back? I don't know. I will keep forcing myself to play hopefully I can find more friends that play I've been in 2 communitys that have died because of the way everything has been handled with this game. Maybe I will see some of you on the battlefront

Yeah, I'm in a group of about 250 members that used to play almost daily, now about 20 of them play daily. It's pretty brutal. My problem is I can't find a shooter game I like the way I like Battlefront. I hate the gore of most FPS games. Star Wars violence has always been pretty tame and I like having targets without blood gushing everywhere. But the bugs gonna sukk me dry like a million mosquitos...

I'm baaaaaaack !!!!

So are you guys satisfied with the explanation we got on the forums ?? I'm happy it was finally acknowledged and I'm optomistic there will be a fix, the message came from F8RGE so I'm pretty confident we will get a fix
- 8 years ago
I'm hopeful but I'll believe it when I see it. I'm just more interested in what kind of time frame they have in mind. Initial problem took more than four months to resolve, don't think I could handle waiting that long again.
- Anonymous8 years ago
@grimmace2 I think we just need to keep the pressure on , when it comes from F8RGE it usually happens , I’ve noticed both of my posts have scrolled off in the forums , I will reintroduce another soon asking for a time frame , once I do I’ll post the link here

I'm glad they finally responded, but "oops we forgot to tell you" was pretty lame considering just how much they had been gushing lately about how their team was committed to better communication. It's also interesting that they removed the crate because, surprise surprise...there's a bug.
Communication with mods on the forums has been pretty good, but I wonder how good internal communication is at EA. I like the presence of knowledgable mods on the forums, but occasionally even they seem blind-sided by weird changes in the game. I don't blame the mods, but they should ask for better communication from the development teams.

OOPS we're sorry was not an acceptable answer , which is why I came unglued .... If they had come with a response within a day , like we finally got after a week of hounding them I think that it would really have helped the situation. I suspect we'll get some kind of fix with the next update. I'm not counting on a hotfix before that. I'll keep my jets cooled until then.
I'll keep calm for the time being as well but I'm doubtful we'll get a fix with the next update. It doesn't seem like they have a solution in mind yet, let alone a way to program and implement it. It would be nice if they gave us some kind of status update along with the road map next week. We'll see. I'll go back to playing, I just won't be spending any more $ on crystals until this is fixed.

What's funny is when I heard the clone wars announcement, I was willing and ready to gladly open my wallet to help fund said dlc. But I'm with you. I am gonna hold back my cash until I see more moves in the right direction
