I'm glad to hear EA is looking into it, but as a regular player I can tell you relying on existing measures and the reporting system simply isn't doing enough.
I'm sure Fairfight works to a degree, the issue is the measures all together aren't working to the degree required when almost every game you join has at least 1 hacker ruining the entire match. I log on every day, play in the little free time I have, then quit because a hacker is ruining any match I join. The experience is not nice, so something definitely needs to change.
From what I can see, the reporting system is not effective. Currently it simply takes too long to ban someone. I've seen consistent hackers banned only after weeks or months, not sooner - and the rest simply aren't or haven't been banned yet. From the players' point of view, based on chat, there is little faith in the reporting system. That's what it comes down to, how effective it's being perceived as, and whether players are likely to consequently use it.
Aside from any anti-cheat system a kick feature would be most welcome. The only time I see consensus in a match chat is when the majority recognise an obvious hacker. Give them the power to do something.
It would be nice to get more transparency on this, and I look forward to hearing of more information being released in the future. But, at this point, I won't be buying BF2 simply because, without information on new measures being taken or EA addressing the current crisis in BF, what's to stop me thinking EA won't care after a while with BF2?
Some food for thought from a player who loves the franchise and want to see it succeed.
