Returning after 2yrs, Someone explain the logic behind lightsaber combat?

I cant figure out what's going on.

1. Splash damage is ridiculously high

2. Blocking doesnt stop damage

3. The circular area for special moves rotates slower than the character, so you'll miss your move if you turn to attack.

4. I'm dying in 3 hits

5. Some hit areas extend double the distance of the sword.  So if you dash away you still receive damage.. (vader/rey)

And I'm about an hour in. I'm not sure what to make of this system or how I'm supposed to play it.  Did the devs just give up? Or is there some hidden nuance to playing this mode.  I literally attacked vader in the back with obi wan (putting him in hitstun) but somehow he was able to turn and spam attacks and take all my health while I had a clear advantage.  The sword fighting just makes no sense. Someone please explain!!!!

  • @MakethegamefunMainly because of players complained about saber combat until developers changed saber combat to redicilous fast spam fest, I liked good old saber combat in this game it was slower and much better, but majority of players complained about saber combat and they wanted this fast paced spam fest. Now saber combat is like spam spam spam, avoid avoid avoid, spam spam spam, very different than what it was orginally intended in this game.

EDIT: Don't return after 2 years, enjoy what you have experienced with this game before and forget this new patched version.

EDIT2: Where are those saber clashes from SWBF1 and where are those saber clashes from SWBF2 launch version, nowhere, its removed, complete feature removed. This is just simple saber spam fest, spam, dodge, spam and repeat forever.

  • That's  so disappointing.  I liked the way it was before. There was this moment of a standoff. You would see both sides holding block with their swords raised and walking toward each other. If you were a blaster hero you knew it was only a matter of time before you died if they walked toward you.

That's all lost. The way the balance is now, there's no reason to pick a lightsaber hero and that's an immediate failure for a star wars game.

    I'm either

    1. Flying around like a plastic bag in the wind from an enemy force move I cant see.

    2. Being shot in the back or receiving splash damage from a blaster hero

Or 3. Confusingly losing sword vs sword duels because the attack vs block programming doesn't make sense.

I dont understand why (block, deflect, parry) mechanics weren't developed further. Such a waste to have it all dumbed down to this when none of it makes sense for a 20v20 battle with guns blazing everywhere or a simple 1v1 duel.

Blocking stops force powers, but don't drain your stamina and be careful with blocking it was nerfed and ruined because of more fluent attack spam fest was so eagerly wanted by players.

  • @Makethegamefun it's broken beyond measure...DICE kept listening to the wrong crowds that cried about lightsaber combat and now we are stuck with broken mechanics, overpowered heroes from the lightside that never get tired and have OHK abilities, etc.
