Slow internet - PS4. Kicks me out of games and off the server.

Hey guys! I have a question.

I've been playing Battlefront 2 for a few months now and I really love it.

Except for the EA servers. I'll get halfway through a game, and it'll freeze and throw me from the game and off the servers. Resetting my PS4 doesn't really help as it happens regularly. It's a chore actually finishing matches if I'm in a party of 4 on Co-Op with my friends. The only other Multiplayer game I have is WipEout so I can't check out a Call of Duty game or something to see if the problem happens there as well.

I'm not the most tech savvy amongst us, and my question is - is this a problem that can easily be fixed with a wired ethernet connection or a Netgear Powerline adapter sort of thing? Has anybody else had this issue and solved it this way?

Please please please... Answer like I'm a 5 year old. My internet seems fine, and my download speeds say 30-35mps (don't know how good that is but apparently its about average)

Thanks guys! I hope I can get it fixed 🙂

  • Same here! I hate when you’re doing well in matches and oh what’s this? I’m frozen in place? Wait, Loading screen? - “The connection to the server has been lost.” Man that’s FRUSTRATING.

BF2 servers are known for being particularly... unstable. My closest sever is Japan hovering around around 98-106ms of ping 😞

    • Are you connected to your closest server?
    • Wired connections directly to your router may significantly improve your performance. Just get an Ethernet cable and connect your console and your router.

    Hope this helps you out.

EDIT: Just took a look at PowerLINE adapters and they’re generally not recommended for gaming. Tried it out once with a TP-Link extender. Did not go well.

It really is annoying! I'll get so close to finishing a match and it just freezes!

Thanks man, I'll have a look into that! An ethernet cable sounds like my best bet 🙂

And I could get WW2, but the game isnt great I can't be bothered downloading it just to test it!

But thanks for the advice I'll look into it!

  • Most likely not the EA servers, but it's your WiFi. I use a "through the air" Wifi (PS4 upstairs, router downstairs) and I get kicked out at least once a night. Other EA games are fine.

I've heard a wired connection is the solution.

That would make sense. A wired connection does sound like my best bet, just gotta figure out how to do it. My WiFi router and my PS4 are at opposite diagonal ends of the house because of the phone line.

Wired does seem the way to go though, thanks!

  • Meanwhile I just got kicked out of a match because “I lost connection to the game server” to be fair 230ms ping in german servers isn’t looking too great...

But the issue is still annoying.

  • I've also read it helps to not have anything else using the same WiFi at the same time - so if you have a laptop, cellphone, anything on the same Wifi at the same time, it cuts the bandwidth (is that how it works?) needed to play the game, so try putting your phone and laptop on airplane mode.

I put both on airplane mode and still get kicked off, but maybe it keeps me from getting kicked off more often? who knows
