Start of game severe lag (Any game mode, every new match)

I currently have an issue in any game mode (but majorly online) that the first 30-60 seconds of a match has crippling lag that is unplayable. After the 30seconds pass, the match will run like clockwork. As soon as that match finishes, and a new one begins, the same thing happens. It is guaranteed to occur every new match. The problem occurs less on offline play.

Key Components:

i5 4690K (OC to 4.2GHz - temps all below 50'C)

R9 280X - weak link of my rig, but have changed graphic settings multiple times.

16GB RAM

I have tried playing various graphical settings, in various combinations, which have changed my FPS in game accordingly, but has not resolved the initial lag period. I have also set all network bandwidth to my PC - My partner literally sits right next to me, has an i5 2500k (No OC) - and a GTX 970 and does not have the tiniest bit of lag at the start of the game.

Never had this issue with absolutely any other game, and whilst my CPU & GPU usage goes very high, it very rarely hits 100%. And when the lag occurs, neither my CPU or GPU are at peak load. I have the same level of start of game lag even with graphical settings turned to minimum.

Anyone else having this issue?

The AMD Radeon settings change unfortunately did not help. The driver rollback was also my next option, but wanted to see if there was anything else anyone was experiencing prior to doing so. I've now rolled back my drivers to Crimson 17.11 - this improved the issue I would say by about 50% - there was less lag, but it was still debilitating during the first 30 seconds of the game, despite it being much less.

Following this I actually reverted the OC on my CPU, then placed the Battlefront process to High CPU priority, this then completely solved the issue. Obviously something must have been stealing some resource in the background in combination with the adrenaline drivers causing a nuisance. Odd considering I still wasn't hitting peak load on my CPU.

Thanks for the quick feedback guys. Much appreciated!

@Darth_DdraigClose the game, go into your Radeon driver settings, click on the gaming tab and then delete the battlefront 2 profile. Then go into global settings and turn off Shader Cache. Then turn Shader Cache back on and launch the game and see if that worked. Sounds crazy but it worked for me 100%.

I also hear many bad things about the Adrenalin driver. It may be best to revert to the last Crimson version.

My second option was going to be to revert to Crimson but gave the above a try and it worked perfectly. I'm using 17.12.2 Adrenaline drivers.
  • Thanks for that advice - I will try this when I get back home and feedback.

I have also been trying with various driver versions and thus far this has not resolved the issue. But I can try backdating further.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I will respond when I find out more!

  • It may sound crazy, but it worked for me. Thanks for the tip. The lag has been driving me nuts.
