Suddenly BF2 starts stuttering (incl. single player)

Hello,

I got Battlefront 2 for Christmas. I could play the game fine enough in 24th night and 25th morning on medium/high details mix. Later that day and ever since my game started to stutter so much that it is absolutely unplayable. It is not internet issue, the same happens in single player. I tried lowering everything to low detail, no change - fraps says FPS are around 50 to 60, but every second or so (usually only when I try to move the camera or the character, everything runs smooth when I don't do anything at all) there is massive stuttering. I've realised I've updated AMD drivers and someone reported this might cause the trouble, so I rolled back, no change. I thought something in my pc might be corrupted, so I installed the game again on my brand new SSD. No change.

Please help 🙂

    Hello @elajden,

Hope you've had a good Christmas.

Here are a few technical issues regarding Stuttering:

    Personal Preferences

    * DirectX 12 will cause unstable game play performance if not using the correct driver that supports this.

Question: I’m using Direct X 12 and I’m seeing some performance issues, what should I do?

EA's Answer: We’re aware that some players using Direct X 12 may see micro-stuttering or other performance issues. While we’re working on a fix for this, we recommend that you change your settings to use DirectX 11 instead.

    Here’s how:

    1. In-game, go to the Home screen.
    2. Click Options, then Video.
    3. Scroll to Enable DirectX 12 and toggle the switch to Off.
    4. Restart the game to apply the change.

    * Incorrect Resolution of your monitor

NOTE: If you have dual GPUS, and you’re using DirectX 12, we recommend switching back to DirectX 11 until we have a fix for the performance issues.
We’ll update here when you’re good to switch back to DirectX 12 again.

Question: I’m using AMD Eyefinity and I’m getting a black screen

EA's Answer: We’ve had reports of some performance issues with Eyefinity in Star Wars Battlefront II, and we’re working on resolving them. In the meantime, we’d advise against using Eyefinity when you play. We’ll update here as soon as we have a workaround or a fix for you.

Question: I’m using an AMD graphics card with the latest drivers, and Lightsabers are invisible. How can I fix this?

EA's Answer: This is a graphical bug, and we’re working on it. We’ll let you know when it’s fixed.

    * Full-screen mode (Try to go into Windowed/Border-less mode to see if this is may increase any issues)

    Here’s how:

    1. In-game, go to the Home screen.
    2. Click Options, then Video.
    3. Scroll to Full-screen mode and toggle the switch to Border-less.
    4. No restart is needed for this option.

    * Other application's are open on your system, (mind you, if you use google chrome, it takes up a lot of memory if multiple tabs are open at once)

    Here’s how:

Use the Ctrl + Shift + Esc keyboard shortcut out of game to open your Task manager and force close applications you are not using at the time.

    * Outdated Graphics Drivers

    * Certain maps

This... Yes, frown apon this one. Some maps are known still to cause game-play performance issues. If you find yourself lagging on the following: Crait, Yavin 4 & Kashyyyk (Correct me if I'm missing any), If these are the maps you find yourself lagging/stuttering in, Do not curse at the specs you have.

Again, these are my personal issues that I have ran into, if you these do not help you try enabling vSync, if you don't know what it is Short for it takes for Vertical SyncVsync is a display option found in some 3-D computer games that allow the gamer to synchronize the frame rate of the game with the monitor refresh rate for better stability and little to know stuttering.

If this also doesn't help resolve your issue, please follow EA's official guide to help you:

I've tried all possible combinations of windowed/fullscreen; dx12/dx11; vsync on/off, it did nothing. I don't run other stuff while playing and I set high CPU priority for games (my rig IS rather dated so I do that regularly, but the point is BF2 worked just fine before). It happens on all maps, even SP campaign missions I've played smoothly a day before. I've already commented on drivers.

Thanks for trying to come up with a solution, though 🙂 Happy holidays!

Clicking through all the required categories only gets me back to Answers HQ :D Or there is a phone number, but I don't even want to imagine the cost of a long call to US explaining all we have discussed here so far and going through "have you tried to restart the game?" type of advice.

Seeing that there are hundreds of people with the same problem on the internet, I'll just wait for the patch I guess.

PS: I got to the support chat eventually, nevermind. I'll let you know if there are any results.
