the game is 5 years old. The only games that last that long with active development are those that have a payback policy. Whether through Loot Boxes, skins, pay to release characters sooner, etc... It was EA's idea initially, to create a definitive game that would last for years, or even decades, of development. It's how the industry works. No money, no motivation.
Even DLCs can't make the game last that long. Look at battlefield 3 or 4. Also, for DLCs it would be necessary to have a much larger playerbase. The best possibility today would be to make the game Free to play, add a lootbox system and release new content.
Disney banned EA from putting lootboox system, after the scandal it had at launch. it just won't happen.
