Your thoughts on Geonosis

So, if you already had time and chance, what are your experiences regarding Geonosis?

What I noticed immediately is that it is extremely challenging as the Republic. I've played 3 times on Republic side, and we could not even get through the first phase in two matches. Both capture points are extremely open to basically every side, with vantage points everywhere.

Then I had no idea how to actually damage the Hardcell Transports. I noticed that the icon displayed on it is the same as one of the AT-TE's abilities, yet I could not fire it no matter how close I was. Now I have no idea how I actually did it - perhaps I needed to activate the middle ability first? Idunno, bit confusing.

Also, it is not very rewarding on the CIS side that you need to shoot at the AT-TE for an extended period of time to destroy it, yet damaging it yields no score.

  • @felker_s  I've played around 10 games. All the games I have played as the Republic we have won, so I guess it really depends on your team. One thing I have discovered left me very disappointed. Having taken out a squad of around 10 protecting an AT-TE with Darth Maul I had the time near it to notice that the driver is unprotected from the rear. Naturally I thought wow ok jump up on this thing and chop him up. Surely I thought they haven't made the same * up on these as with some other vehicles. Well they have. You can't jump on them because as soon as it takes a step you instantly die, you can't chop the exposed driver either. I really think that's 💩. I earned that AT-TE kill with Darth Maul I feel robbed, at least let me kill the driver and force them to get another into the vehicle but noooo. EA fix your game.

Generally speaking about Geonosis it's nice to have something new on the game and to have the massive open map. I'm sure they said this map would be a large scale non linear game, imo this still seems pretty linear.

True, some maps might feel unbalanced with the wrong team. Then again, this confirmed that team balancing is still pretty questionable.

Eh, I don't know about the "massive open map" part. That's what I like the least about this one, it's just a huge wasteland, during all phases. I didn't have time to look through 100% of it, so there might be some, but at least give us some caves, like on Hoth... Most of the other maps get this right, having both open spaces and close quarter combat, with the emphasis being on one or the other in each phase, while still having overlaps of both (e.g. Crait's wasteland with the tunnel system underneath).

The non-linear one is not the Galactic Assault version of Geonosis. They said that about the mysterious new mode that keeps being pushed back, currently set for February.

  • Too linear. No freedom. Expected more cooperation with multitrooper ATTE gameplay. Confusing NPC surroundings, which are shooting on you, sometimes can be killed, sometimes it is just background...

  • Okay, I don't even understand the final phase of Geonosis. The counter says zero AT-TEs, while there are three active walkers with "Attack" signs on them. I'd guess it means the available reinforcements (i.e. how many walkers will be dropped after destroying the previous ones), but this makes it chaotic. In every other game of GA, the number of enemy reinforcements you see actually translates to the number of enemies you have to kill to win the phase (or to get to Overtime phase). Making it so that your objective counter is on zero, but still presenting you with three separate Attack orders is not too user-friendly.

Also, CIS side, 3rd phase. Our CP icon says "Defend" with a number on it. Is that the number of enemies? If so, why doesn't it say "Contested"? If Republic footsoldiers can contest it, why do AT-TEs even matter? The hell is going on, lol. From what I understand, an AT-TE needs to reach the final point. What are these numbers on the CP indicating then, when the walkers are way too far to do anything? And if that number indicates the defenders on it... Well, why would you indicate that? I also saw these random numbers on the final point while playing as the Republic, and being way out of reach with our every walker.

Making the first phase CIS objectives say "Secure" is also misleading. On every other map, this would be a label for the attackers, basically meaning "capture" - on Geonosis, it is for the defenders, meaning "defend". I understand that securing a position logically means making sure that no hostiles are present, but I see a lot of CIS guys trying to rush the console itself, believing that we have to be the ones capturing it.

To be honest, I've already had enough of Geonosis. I also got fed up with Crait when it launched (due to it being way too frequent in the rotation), but that took a lot longer than a day... It would be really nice to have a list of maps with tickboxes when searching for a game, outside of this quick join. I haven't seen Kamino or Yavin in weeks, while having a game on Kashyyyk two times a day - and now it's just Geonosis, the EOR Matchmaking from two Geonoses threw me to a rotation of another two Geonoses, lol.

  • Yeah it's a bit confusing, I just go on the premise of push forward and push the enemy back, usually works in terms of getting the win. One thing that's just absolutely killing this map for me is having to play on the same faction constantly. Not sure if anyone else has found this, but omg it's dry. This map, if contested properly is long. The facts that it's the only map available on rotation to add to that fact makes it unbearable playing the same faction twice. That's exactly what I'm getting repeatedly. When I leave the lobby to try and find a game on the opposite faction it will still put me on the faction it made me play 2 times running already, but I'm talking relentlessly. I like playing with the darkside so at first didn't mind two games consecutively defending, but it came to a point its happening in every game and its just wow not fun. I would also like a chance to try and level up Obi Wan, so I eventually leave and try to join a game to finally get a game on the Republic side and quite literally joined and quit at least 10 lobbies every single one separatists before I gave up. Wtf is that about? If I stay in the lobby where I'm forced to play two games running with one faction I will also get two games running with the opposite faction but ffs I don't want to play the game like that, it's like an hour long doing the same attack followed by an hour long doing the same defence or visa versa, come on wtf sort it out this matchmaking is killing this new map for me.
