Allow Xbox Controllers to bind "Maximize Power" instead of only "Power to"

Made a mention of this to Charlemagne but here goes.

Actually have some feedback that I was wondering if we could forward to the dev team.

Would it be possible to allow an Xbox controller to bind maximize power to a given system to a button instead of having the only option being adjust power to a given subsystem?

On keyboard and hotas you can directly bind maximize power to a button to a given subsystem but you cannot do that with an Xbox controller. I've had to use Steam Big picture to essentially emulate my arrow keys as the maximize buttons, and while this workaround works. There's a tiny amount of input lag that I've noticed that really bungles up competitive play.

allowing more competitive players like myself to take advantage of advanced power management along with the maximize power options, gives a very elite dangerous feel and I feel gives a little bit more control over the ship.

not sure if this is a huge issue as very few of us have this very particular setup.

If it would be possible to have a future patch that allowed us controller players to bind that button press though that would be a dream come true and I wouldn't have to deal with stinky big picture from Steam.

  • Have you tried setting Options->Controls->Power Management to Basic? Doing so will always set maximum power to the system you direct power to instead of the incremental increases you'll get with Advanced.

You can do that, but you'll lose the benefit of using advanced. One is where you maximize lasers then maximize engines. Now your power distribution becomes 8/4/0 pips. This distribution is very useful after overcharging your shields, and is completely unachievable with basic.

True. I'm all for adding more key- and button-bind options for everything anyway, and being able to put more than one action a single key (also customize the hold/double-tap stuff independently from the primary function would be nice).

  • I think the Devs did a great job of letting us bind buttons to whatever we want, but I still think there are more unexplored options that weren't included and this is one of them. Hope they look into it!

  • I can say that I would not like that as default cause I use incremental during defense and sometimes in attack modes depending on my class. Sometimes I need things still in a certain rage to run other power measures from bottoming out. That being said there is a way to set this function in game without menu settings. Double tap the down default equalizing button or hold it down and it switches over to a full power selection mode. then just hit the one you want to maximize and you will still be able ot equalize all power like usual with a tap. Then double tap or hold down the button till it switches back to incremental mode. The equalization button never changes its self, but switches the selection measures between incremental and full scaling adjustments.    This will need to be reconfigured by devs ofcourse, as Im just suggesting from my preference as a xbox user myself.

  • Yes please and allow keyboard users to boost/drift with the same button, as on controller.

At the risk of being annoying, I might reply to this exact thread every single day. Or at least the ones that I remember to.

What's... what's that? Xbox controllers should still be allowed to bind maximize power?

    Just reminding everyone.
