Am I alone in being absolutely disappointed in this game!!!

Am I alone in being absolutely disappointed in this game!!!

It would appear so, as all the reviews seem to be so favourable with reviews scoring it 8, 9 out of 10.

I was very dubious when this game was first announced, and held off pre-ordering for quite some time, before being convinced to order it when I watched one of the last few launch trailers. It looked epic, amazing a true Star Wars Space Combat game with a really cool single player story mode. What more could I ask for? Having played and really enjoyed Stars Wars Fallen Order, EA were finally producing some, top notch Star Wars games.

Well to be blunt. I have not really enjoyed any of it, it feels unfinished, slapped together, very light on content. Buggy. The hanger and empty conversations with NPC's I have no attachment with are a joke, the fact that I thought you could choose which faction you wanted to play the story with, and the idea that I could create a cool customisable character are not present in the game. This feels like a dlc add on for something bigger and better!!!

I enjoyed the single player game in Star Wars Battlefront II more than this!!! The Space Combat in Battlefront II in my opinion is also better than this game.

X4 is better than this game.

No Man's Sky is better than this game.

Rebel Galaxy Outlaw is better than this game.

Starlink battle for atlas is Better than this game.

Infinity Battlescape is better than this game.

Everspace 2 Prolouge was more fun and is better than this game.

Sorry to Rant, but if I could ask for a refund I would, this game is a 5 maybe 6 out of 10 for me!!!!

I feel like the boy who told the Emperor, about his new clothes!!!!

What do you guys honestly think. Have you re-watched the trailers to compare what was advertised, and what we actually have?????

I personally feel a great disturbance in the Force!!!!

  • @ant0067i All the paid shills were saying it was a decent successor to the 27 year old games.

    Paid shill is paid.

I knew it would be flashy, I knew it would be minimal, what I didn't expect was completely uncontrollable with mouse and keyboard when the 27 year old titles got that right.

Since they are ignoring all threads that ask about it in tech support, bug report and general I'm starting to think the conspiracy theory nuts are right, its by design, surly they cant be that incompetent? Right?

  • I doubt you're alone but the only thing I'm disappointed with is there isn't more of it. Not that I think the game isn't good value, but it does fall short of being exceptional or a masterpiece. It is still great fun and the content that's there has kept me going for 17hours and I'm still only half way through the campaign (which I still maintain is the best bit of the game). When all is said and done I will have gotten more than enough joy from this game, fully immersed in VR, to justify the price tag.

The conversations can feel a little stilted at times, almost like there was meant to be pauses for the player to select a conversation item but that part was cut leaving it as a pure info dump monologue that was recorded and delivered in chunks. It's a shame but personally I appreciate the backstory and it's entirely skippable if you're not interested.

You thinking you could choose a faction when it was clearly stated the campaign switched back and forth really isn't the games fault. It would have been nice to have the option to play from one side or the other, or switch back and forth but that's not what the game set out to be.

X4 is an completely different sort of game, No Mans Sky is a completely different sort of game (with terrible space combat), Rebel Galaxy is a completely different game that flies your ship in combat for you if you want, Starlink battle for atlas?! We're getting further and further away here. Clearly if this is what you're looking for than Squadrons is not the game for you.

Sorry you bought a game with expectations that weren't met but I have to say in this instance that seems to be very much on you not the game or it's advertising. It was pretty clear what this game was and how much content it had. I wish there was more because it's great.

  • @ant0067i I'm glad I never got the game. From what I've seen on YT I'd rather just play Starfighter Assault on BFII if I want a starfighter fix. Watched the campaign online too, was really nothing special. The game is pretty much a quick cash-grab that would really only appeal to hardcore pilots, especially those that grew up playing the older games 20 years ago or so.

Yup, as advertised, and I sincerely thank EA and Motive for that. 🙂

@UNL1M1T3D_P0W3R "Quick cash grab". The game would be worth the 40 bucks even if it only had the practice mode and multiplayer fleet battles. Everything else is just a cherry on top. The flying experience is fantastic, both in and out of VR. Easy to learn, hard to master, just as it should be. But you will never realize that just from watching youtube.

Seriously you can't judge this game by Youtube content it's about seat of the pants flying. But I suspect you had decided you weren't going to like it long before you actually watched any videos of it.

  • Im very disappointed

I cant get consistent playable multiplayer matches for anything because im in Australia.

The community has worked out that EA must be using a Peer to peer matchmaking and connection model.  And it isnt region specific.

SO here we are, connecting from Australia,  to predominantly USA based hosts and having to fly off of the ping we are getting to that host.  Its terrible.

Can blast away and away at a target for seconds, emptying full laser recharges....and do zero damage.  Rubber banding... ghosting...  It legit may as well be unplayable.

To top it off they didnt even feel the need to put a latency monitor in the game.

And to this point theres been ZERO acknowledgement from EA theres any issues.   Im done with these clowns.  Untilt hey acknowledge they screwed up the matchmaking and take steps to remedy it, ill never buy another EA title again - certainly not a multiplayer or Star Wars one.

@ant0067ithe game is not 10/10, but it is exactly what I expected it to be. Its multiplayer aspect is good and requires skill as well as teamwork

can sink a lot of hours into its multiplayer. the singleplayer was always going to be a glorified tutorial. 8/10 game, but yes some bugs need to get sorted

Its multiplayer aspect is garbage if you live outside the USA or, possibly, Europe.  Im not really sure what the Europeans think of this title.

Players in Oceania are already ditching it in droves because we cant compete int he multiplayer.

    1. Developers who provide a list of known bugs at launch (as opposed to never).

    I could go on.

Please... go on and get EA to acknowledge that players outside the USA are screwed on multiplayer because its a Peer to Peer connection model.

YOu say the devs provide known bugs and good updates.  Except they havnt acknowledged AT ALL that players outside the USA are struggling to dealw ith latency in multiplayer matches.

Im glad youre having fun, because Im feeling totally ripped off.
