A lot of PC players have played, or are still playing, the original games like X-Wing vs TIE Fighter or X-Wing Alliance. These people are *really* good. The skills do transfer. Heck it's by design since the lead designer of Squadrons is a fan of the original games himself. So a lot of PC players are already good. You need to improve.
The mouse control in the original games is not at all like the mouse control in this game. Your comparison is absolutely irrelevant. Just because Star Wars fans play both games, doesn't mean the skills are transferable. I need to get good? Maybe I play other games and I don't want to mess up my muscle memory playing this game and then playing EVERY OTHER SPACE COMBAT GAME ever made which has proper controls for the mouse. Get better at the game? I refunded it after 5 minutes of flight ingame, I have NO interest forcing myself to learn a combat system that sucks and is unique to only this game.
Anyone who disagrees is a Star Wars fanboi who would play this game even if the devs forced you to use your feet to aim.
Also these PC players you speak of are likely using a gamepad or a HOTAS and not a mouse. Every twitch player I watch using a mouse is years behind the twitch players using gamepad.
