Huge lag spike at start of game-mode, fine afterwards

Hi there.

I'm having a great time playing the Beta but I just have run into a few technical issues that need to be fixed before release.

Whenever I run the game on any other graphics setting other than 'Low' for the 2 multiplayer map, I usually get a huge lag spike at the start of the map when I'm given the chance to manage my hand and loadout and on the screen where it explains the game mode. This lag spike usually results in an error that says something along the lines of 'You have been disconnected from the game session' and removes me from the game I was connected to. The lag spike persists in the co-op game mode, but usually does not result in a disconnect.

If I start the game in 'Low' settings I still have the huge lag spike at the start of the match for both multiplayer maps but I normally am able to stay in the game. Once in the game on low settings, I can go to my graphics settings and change them all to Ultra and then continue to play the game with no problems what so ever on the Ultra settings.

Are there any known fixes? I have updated my drivers and even OC'd my CPU in pursuit for a fix, but it seems like an issue with the game.

Cheers!

@NoCure4Cancer I have encountered the same issue (stuttering for a minute or two) and it helped on my system to close some not needed background processes. Could you please check if turning off any kind of not needed application (Steam, Skype, Updater such as Adobe or MS Office updater in the taskbar etc.) helps to solve the issue? Just enter your taskmanager and disable any application you don't need at the moment. We got several reports about high CPU usage and that could be related, could you please tell us the model of your videocard and your CPU?

    Cheers

  • Hi Bastian, thanks for the swift reply. I am operating on Intel i5 750 2.67GHz that has been overlocked to 3.00GHz and my GPU is an AMD R9 280x with 3gb memory.

I too believed (and maybe still do believe?) the issue is related to CPU power. My CPU was operating at factory settings the first time I played the beta, but after encountering the problems mentioned in my first post I decided to over-clock it to closer match the required specifications to play Battlefront and hope this would fix, or at least alleviate the issue. However I found this not to be the case. I also did play the beta again, with applications such as Steam, Skype, and general background applications all closed and this, in combination with the over-clocking seemed to have a slight, beneficial impact but has sadly not fixed the issue entirely and my situation is still similar to the one described above.

I won't be able to play the beta again for around 48 hours, but when I have the chance I will give it another go and ensure that every other non-essential application is closed.

Let me know if you find any other work around or just want me to try something else.

    Thank you for your time!

    Hey LFALLENL-DINGO!

Thanks for the information around this issue. We are currently in the process of investigating this issue further!

To anyone experiencing this issue and looking to report it/help assist us further, I'd ask that you please post your "dxdiag" on this thread via the instructions below:

    1. Hold down the Windows key and press R on your keyboard.
    2. In the Run box that appears type "dxdiag" without the quotes and press OK.
    3. If you get a box asking to check if your drivers are digitally signed choose Yes.
    4. In the new window that appears, give the program a few seconds to complete it's processing (bar in the bottom left) then click 'Save All Information...' in the bottom right.
    5. Save the text file somewhere easily accessible, I'd recommend your desktop!
    6. Double click the text file to open it, press CTRL + A to select all of the text then CTRL + C to copy.
    7. Go to http://pastebin.com, and use CTRL + V to paste the data into the webpage and click submit
    8. Copy the link and paste it here in the thread! =D

    Thanks!
