Is Fallen order just a Tomb Raider reskin?

While light Sabre combat is among the best of most Star Wars games. The climbing, shimmying and even wall running are all cut and pasted from tomb raider games of the recent and distant past.
Here we see wall running from a distant tomb raider game where a magnetic grapple is used.

  • Unless any game with shooting, melee combat, or platforming is a reskin of each other.

    I'd say no...

I suspect games development is a little more involved than 'cutting and pasting' core game mechanics from one publisher's games into another. I really don't think that's how it works...

    Are there traversal similarities? Sure.

That's not really wall running in TR, it's grapple swinging, and it's look and mechanic is completely different. In grapple swinging it's a back and forth momentum thing. It's also critical what height you swing at and on certain swings where you have to jump behind to a ledge, the timing is critical.

JFO's platforming in general is very tame compared to that of TR, especially TR Anniversary, where there are many difficult places to platform with timed apparatuses involved, as well as flying creatures to deal with.

The combat is also very different. Most combat in TR is pretty arcade, even lining up QTE circles with slow mo involved. JFO on the other hand has very free flowing combat, especially if you don't use target lock.

Basically any similarities are minute compared to the many ways the games are very different.
  • Well I've played through Fallen order beginning to end a few times now and all 3 of the latest Tomb Raider games.

At a glance the games feel very similar, I even found myself searching the web to find out if they had some developer connection.

In my subjective opinion, they look and feel like they could be in the same series with a strange cousin jedi tomb raider version in an alternate universe or something.

I wonder how hard it would be to mod tomb raider or fallen order with the same/similar assets to the other, that might answer your question :-)

I had the exact same feeling.

    The wall climbing movements.

The camera zoom in when getting through tight spaces.

The one that hit me the most was the area on Ilum as you were heading towards the Jedi Temple. The way Cal raises his arms when walking against the wind, was exactly the way Lara did it in the TR reboot (1st installment).
