man.. I was an expert in 90's at Xwing vs TieFighter but I can't figure this game out now. I've played with mouse settings but it's hard to fly and hit anything b/c u barely move mouse and it swings up and down and all over wildly.

  • so nothing wrong with mouse, drives, etc. and u don't have to have a flight stick for this game. i looked in settings to see if it's the difficulty, or mouse sensitivity, etc. it's just hard or something. it won't aim at something and sit still... it swings wildly all over.

That's the problem, the aim is going all over the place, there's a key in the options that let's you reset the position of the crosshair when you press it, find it and rebind it to something easy to access to (most likely a mouse button). It's far from a perfect solution but it can help you.

Mouse sensitivity should be low otherwise you will never be able to control it to get it back to the dead zone where your ship doesn't move. Mouse screen motion range should be as low as you feel comfortable using, the bigger it is the easier you can control your turns but you will lose reaction time to turn to the other side as you will have to travel more screen with your mouse, the smaller it is the easier you can change in which side you turn but the less control over the turn rate you have. I personally sit at 20% and 50%.

@CloudWalker60 If you can, try to get a stick with twist for roll. Mouse play has got to be awful. Hotas is wildly overpriced 3x normal right now for the cheaper ones.

@GRDNANGL172I'd counter with rudders for Yaw, Stick X-Axis for Roll. You can get some very smooth flying when using 'correct' controls. I see so many clips and streams where people are just yawing and pitching like crazy and never rolling, but rolling into the same plane as the target makes shooting A LOT easier.

There is a re-center mouse key, default X. It stops you turning really quickly.

@BluesyMoo Yeah, That's OP and should be removed. It removes any inertia; the other controllers / inputs don't have such a feature. It's unfair.

I would only use mouse buttons for targeting and call toggles. Everthing else I would use keyboard.

  • Try adjusting the sensitivity in the game itself. Also you may want to use some of the guided weapons and mines to help in the beginning which can still get you kills. The other option is to load components that reduce manoeuvring which may make it easier to handle.
