I get motion blur that makes the VR game unplayable. This went away for a while after the 1.1 update but has returned in 1.2 when I played first time since 1.2. I also updated my nVidia 2080 graphics driver today too and installed a HOTAS. I even tried disabling blur in the steam config settings but that didn't seem to do anything.

  • It's probably motion smoothing or asw you're experiencing due to the frame rate issue outside the cockpit

  • If it's that, what do I do to fix it?  I tried lowering graphics to medium and I have a high-end system and RTX 2080 but the blurring outside cockpit continued.

You cannot fix it. If you improve your performance enough to not need ASW (as you would do in other games), you'll get constant stuttering outside the cockpit instead because of the bug mentioned here:

The engine is broken and should never have been released as a "VR ready" game. The best way to play it in VR is actually with ASW.

Edit: ASW = motion smoothing, if you don't have an Oculus Headset. Not sure what it's called on WMR headsets. Basically predicts and generates frames to compensate for lacking performance when in VR, but causes some artefacts.

No workaround at this point to my knowledge--only a dire need for EA to fix the framerate issue ASAP. Don't get your hopes up, as we have yet for them to even acknowledge it as a legitimate bug on the known issues thread, even though there are nearly 600 comments in the main thread for it: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/Refresh-Rate-bug/m-p/9535372#M22

Heya, EA... So... you going to abandon PC VR players, or what?

EDIT: Oops @VeryBigLouis  made his reply just a couple minutes before I finished typing mine. That's how crazy this is... There are so many people affected that we're writing comments about it at literally the same time on top of each other.

If it is that then it can't be fixed until they fix the refresh rate bug, see the other thread with the most posts. The blurring would be more noticeable on Valve Index or HTC Vive, it's not so bad on Oculus Headsets as they use a better method imo.

  • What doesn't make sense is the blur existed when I installed on day 1, then went away after they issued an update. I played some practice dog fights and it was perfect on my Valve Index. Did this not happen for others?

I then got busy and just came back to the game today and the issue is back. I think it downloaded 1.2 and I installed a new Nvidia driver. Maybe something changed unless they just put the bug back in.

Today, ultra settings give me 45 fps, so I lowered all the settings to Low and get 90 FPS but I still have the nausea invoking blur.

Something that has happened between patches is that the duplicate frame timings have adjusted, I wonder if this could be the cause for you. I know there’s around 60 pages on the refresh rate bug thread but  have a read, the answer probably lies in there

Try going in the Video Options and set the VR Options to Custom (this is separate from the normal video options), then crank the Volumetric Quality way down and set the Anti-Aliasing to TAA Low.  These two options will give you ~15-20 fps.  The next heaviest three would be Lighting, Shadows, and Ambient Occlusion.

  • Yes, I lowered all the graphic settings and got a solid 90 fps, but that had no effect on the blur.
