Unfortunately that’s how almost all competitive modes in games work. Which is why usually when there’s that one player who screws up the team by not playing the objective but just going for kills or whatever personal achievements, it usually doesn’t end well. For squadrons, hitting the capital ships require quite a bit of team work and foresight. If you love shooting enemy players down, you gotta find a way to make that work for your bomber teammates, or if your team has to many interceptors and nobody’s taking down the cap ship, somebody’s gotta switch. It’s all about teamwork and sacrificing your personal agendas for the greater good of the team. That’s what makes competitive team games interesting because people can’t just stick to one thing that they like forever. They actually have to adapt and the team that adapts best wins.
What makes you think that going for the kills is not playing objective. Actualy even 1 interceptor pilot that is good at killing is quite important player for the team. Think about it when attacking and that interceptor guy shoot down 2 or 3 enemies before bombers get to attack makes the job for bombers much easier and then that interceptor will try to kill enemies attacking team mates to keep them alive. Ofc enemy team most likely have that interceptor allso and then it is up to interceptors Who get the advantage. Usually defending team has more than 1 interceptor so that 1 interceptor in your team might make 1 or more enemies unable to attack your bombers even if he don't kill them and just dogfights em. Focusing on killing the enemies is allso playing for objective. Beside some ppl are just very good at killing other players and their skills would go to waste bombing capitalships just like some one Who is good at bombing will waste his skills on dogfihting if he is bad at it...

The game favors the team play. That team play is not only everybody going to unload bombs over the flagships no matter what. But when attacking, if you kill one enemy and one of your allies die in the same time span your have lost points as attacker's takeedowns worth less points than defender's. Maybe your efforts should be driven to make your allies survive.
It's a hard lesson in this kind of games, but MVP means nothing, Most points is not always related with most useful or best teamplayer. Unfortunately it's hard to track the real important stats (retiring on time, help the team to get the objectives faster, etc). I think it's impossible without good team communication, that's the hard part...
We all have much to learn about the game strategies and teamplay, so be patient, now everything is very random because nobody knows really how to play.
