No Third Person Perspective?

I read that this game will be played entirely from cockpit view. Is this true? I get motion sickness in first-person games and can't play them, and so does everyone else in my family. I was really looking forward to play Squadrons. It would be a shame if I had to skip this game after having fun with Battlefront 2's starfighter mode, but that game mode has too few players to play anymore.

Mechwarrior Online had a 3rd Person drone View mode, but no one really uses it for combat as far as I know.

  • The thing is if you make a clear hud with all the info you want, it is always going to be better than a cockpit that takes away your visibility. Even the idea for what next gen fighter planes will have is a cockpit that can see through. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDCdBEd_qAE )

The cockpit is for immersion, so that you feel as the pilot in control of the ship, and for me its the only way that makes sense to play a sim.

  • I think the proportion of people playing in VR will be surprisingly higher than expected. 3rd person is a large advantage over cockpit and VR 3rd person makes absolutely no sense. No 3rd person was a good choice.

As stated by @HCarbonic - I can confirm STAR WARS™: Squadrons is exclusively played in first-person.

Hopefully with Head Tracking (VR or TrackIR / FreeTrack / OpenTack), in which case there will be no problem looking up/over/around your cockpit 😃
