There's nothing BS about it. Anyone with a shred of awareness to what's going on can plainly see and hear the wall panels pop out that you use to access the next point. What you're proposing would just cause even more people to complain about the platforming being too Tomb Raider like.
It's obviously a game that involves a lot of exploration and navigation that requires player awareness of their surroundings. I really don't think they're asking too much. I'd rather have it this way than be able to easily remember each path on subsequent play throughs. If anything it keeps replays feeling fresh, not stale.
