Re: For Old time TIE Fighter,XWing players,Do you love this game?

Yeah, the campaign was better in the old games - much longer with more complex missions, more epic stories, and in TIE Fighter a more nuanced portrayal of the Empire.  Squadrons's missions felt more like those of the Rogue Squadron games.  That said, I did like Squadrons's emphasis on characters, something always lacking in the X-Wing games, and I didn't have a problem with flipping between the two sides.

But campaign aside, Squadrons's core gameplay is fantastic, especially in VR.  I like the fact that it isn't an exact copy of X-Wing, bringing new things to the table while still retaining all the depth of the original series.  So yes, I love the game even if it isn't exactly what I wanted, especially since I didn't think we'd ever get another X-Wing.

I would like it with a couple balance fixes.

The tie bomber is a bit too tough when it's fit out with a certain load, and the Tie Interceptor has canons that, when over charged, can shred an A-wing with a couple shots, but an A-wing can lay into a Tie Fighter for a full 2 seconds and they can walk away with 30 health left.

After going for about 0-5 matches with the Empire winning by more than 10 points today, I was going to say it's perception, but I can't.  It's a little lopsided.

The other effect happens for both sides,

It's easy to get 5v5 matches in to a rhythm where one side has staggered the kills so that people are rushing in one at a time to a group of 5 enemies, resulting in devastating losses as well.

I think this could be remedied by having players forced to spawn in two at a time, and wait for someone else to die when they do?  Not sure how best to solve that one.  But you need a way to have enemy players not, essentially, camp the spawn as players spawn in to join after dying.

That cycle is hard to break once it starts, and requires a lot of awareness on the part of the team playing.

  • No, this game does not compare to the storytelling elements of the old games.  I would give the old X-Wing series perhaps a 9/10 when you take into consideration how high end the graphics were for their day, and this game perhaps a 5/10.
