Re: TrackIR support?

Track IR is pointless for Imperial ships as you can't look around outside only forward so i doubt they will go to all that effort to give republic yet another advantage lol.

Because vr gives the feeling your inside a ship and gives the depth perception to distant objects even if you can only look forward. Track it is to look around which is pointless on its own for empire and only good in 2-3 Republic ships.

@AdamChattaway Let the IR users to be the judge for that.
I have tried both VR and TrackIR. And I'm sorry, but I just cannot get use to the VR googles. Too heavy, uncomfortable, headache after a few minutes and so on. I rather have my 50" monitor and be able to look around comfortably.

Also, what the **** do you care if they implement TrackIR if you are not going to use it? Are you trolling also on DCS or MSFS forums to prevent them from using the trackIR system?

you salty f. they are not going to implement such minor niche used technology into a game mostly sold on consoles, that would only be useful for 50% of the game. If VR gives you a headache after 5 min you need to go see a doctor and if it's too heavy for you take some vitamins and work out... jesus f christ.

@AdamChattaway Yeah, sure. You're right.. Whatever you say...
"Minor niche" or not, it's 14 pages of people asking for this (well, and a few broken hearts asking Motive not to put it just 'cause the have spend lots of money on their VR hardware).

There's are thousands of people with VR that doesn't work, how many simps bought a £200 infared cheap * clip and camera from NaturalPoint that's not been updated since it was made and costs as much as some VR headsets lol... There are 1000x more people with VR issues that need fixing than the 5 people in the world with track IR or it's chinese knockoff... we can't even play above 60 fps and you want them to spend time on this? that only benefits 40% of ships in the game and lets be honest is not even needed in star wars it's not DCS or SC and even SC is spending tons developing it's webcam headtracking software because that few people use it.

Your eye cannot even process frame rates above 60fps with any real difference noticeable.  That argument is moot.

Track IR has a massive following in the flight sim community.  It revolutionized flying on the computer platform.

While not everyone uses a computer, those that do will be absolutely required to have this functionality if they're to enjoy the fact that you can swivel your head.  Situational Awareness through head movement is a key element of this game that has been blatantly left out for PC users.

It's like marketing Zelda games, but you can only turn to look if you're running forward.  How annoying would that be?  Also - the other platform users get this key, core functionality of the game that is denied to PC users without this support.

Why a make a game, market it for a platform, spend money making it compatible, only to have a key function of the game play be inoperable to the base of players using it?

Track IR support doesn't cost a fortune.

It's either compatible with PC, or it isn't, and right now, it isn't.  Sure, you can load it up, but large elements of the immersion are simply not accessible to the PC Player Base and it makes the game almost a flop, really, for PC gamers.

It's an arcade game.  I love arcade games.  I think this game is beautiful, and for what it is, it's excellent.

But it isn't a PC game.  It isn't a flight sim, and it isn't a space sim.  Without Track IR support, I'm frankly surprised it was even marketed for PC gamers.  This day in age, Track IR support for games that bill themselves as "Flight" or "Space" combat, is so basic, it's equivalent to releasing Doom: 3 without mouse support.

It's a modern day, Star Wars Asteroids.

Your brain cannot even interpret a frame rate over 60 with any real noticeable difference.
    That argument is moot.

Track IR support is not expensive.  It's not revolutionary anymore, either.  It's as basic to space and flight sims, as mouse support is to Doom.

Players in VR or Console get situational awareness boons from being able to swivel their heads in game, and immersion points, if you're scoring.  PC gamers get a forward-facing, 90's style arcade game with 2020 graphics.

A huge element of the game does not work for PC players right now, and they spent a lot of money making it compatible with the PC platform.  Why would you build that compatibility, to exclude such a basic element?

Track IR has a massive following, it isn't a niche market.  It's simply another form of immersion, similar to VR, for people who prefer not to use a headset.  Many folks with glasses, or the need to remain situationally aware of their real-life surroundings, rely on Track IR tech to provide immersion in their simming.  It's an accessibility feature, as much as a cool feature.  They spent so much money adding color-blind filters, text to speech options, voice-over narration of menus....but they didn't add support for Track IR?

I'm guessing they'll add it soon, it would be a silly business decision to make a game compatible with PC, only to drop support for the PC market on launch.  Why bother in the first place?

omg here we go the console players... if my game is 30 fps i can't play it, if its 60 i can tell its 60, if i play at 100 i can see and feel it, if i play at 165 on my monitor i can see and feel it. stop with your nonsense brain can't see over 60 fps crap. a car doing 140 past you on motorway doesn't ghost and stutter does it... 1 fps lags, 60 is smooth ish, 165 is super smooth, you can tell if you can;t you were starved of oxygen for longer than 3 min at birth.

    I beg to differ.

With TiR you can easily track the target "through" the cockpit AND thus you'll not "overcompensate" when you get your target closer to your sights (front of your fighter).

This is the biggest advantage you get when flying with VR and headtracking is so much easier to implement.

To be honest, I dont' think you @AdamChattaway don't own a TiR so it's easy for you to think that it would only benefit the Rebel players.

I have used open source track IR, and own a rift S headset. how does TrackIR benefit imperial ships who can only look forward with a small arc and no side windows and above windows to track enemy? you dont even need to move your head as imperial side as everything is in your field of view. have you ever played the imperial side?

  • @AdamChattaway TrackIR benefits both Imperial and Rebel ships, by allowing you to see the targeting icon (which you can visually see through the hull) so that you can anticipate when the target is about to become visible in the glass canopy so you don't over shoot your target by holding the joystick at full attack waiting for the target to become visible.

Are you not understanding this concept?

Yup, like others have said trackir helps immensely with over compensation while in a dogfight. Regardless if it is a space sim or terrestrial flight sim. Your brain is able to compensate and reduce that annoying over compensation. I hate playing any "simulator" without my trackir engaged for that simple reason.
