Ruined X55 Rhino

hello folks

this game has destroyed my X55 rhino, it managed to survive elite dangerous and DCS world........ but not SW squadrons

the throttle was already ruined, and replaced with an X56 throttle which iv taken the time to modify so the wires are less likely to break

but the joystick......... i was flying round like yoda in a skoda, next thing SNAP.......... there goes the twist yaw, the centre return spring had snapped, so 40 mins later a bush fix was implemented using a keyring....... off me keys........ still working a treat now.........

next thing to go took a while to figure out..... i suddenly couldnt fly with any degree of accuracy, it was like the joystick was no longer analogue, and intermittant firing of main weapon whilst yawing, after some pondering, i figured one of the ground cables was shorting out........... somewhere............. turns out a wire had broken from the main connector where the grip mounts to the base, this took a while to figure out as it was 11 wires onto 10 solder pads, and the broken wire would have to be the only pad with 2 wires connect.......... so you know for the future, the red wire from the 'yaw' pot connects to the blue wire of the main loom(there are 2 blue wires, the 2nd wire is also from the yaw pot, dont connect these together!!)

just getting the equipment ready for a game is starting to feel like im actually having to fix things ready to go to war, even more realism hahahahahahaahaha

good job Devs/EA, if im breaking joysticks from just playing this wonderful game then yall doing something very right 😉

stay safe

peace out

if any X55/X56 owners are having issues with there setup, i can probably help out, so dont hesitate to ask, what you think maybe a dead stick, i may be able to help get working again

  • @mickeeiemouse69 From time to time my X56 stop working in the middle of the game. Thorttle, joystick just random. I have to take the plug out from the computer and plug it in after few seconds. Dont have idea what is the problem. Exept that HOTAS, VR and SW Squadrons .... best money spend EVER 🙂

    hello mate

2 suspects for that, well, 3 actually

1st, i always recommend a powered USB 3 hub to power the throttle, i dont know if the x56 still suffers from high power draw or weather logitech have now got it in check, so it could be a power issue

2nd, the USBs are going to sleep, change USB power management in the power options>advance power setting in control panel, find USB option and set USB suspended state to disable

3rd could just be a driver issue, i updated my drivers a while ago and it caused power drops and button ghosting, the USB3 hub fixed all of this

when the wire broke a few days ago, i tried to go back to the control pad....... yeah naaaar, wasnt long before i was fixing the joystick and trying to source a new one. its just the best VR experience ever with a HOTAS

hop[e the above helps mate 😉

  • @mickeeiemouse69 Powered USB HUB is a must. Also, avoid using the "twist" axis for roll. Map that to one of the rollers on the throttle. Overusing the twist will derail your flight stick very quickly.

@KillsInTheNight But the twist mechanism is by far the best function for rolling. Mapping the roll to the throttles is completely unintuitive. If you do that, I bet you don't do spiral maneuvering when trying to escape
