Ship classes, Multiplayer/Singleplayer Modes, possible DLC?

For one I kinda hope that any DLC will be free, ie, we won't be paying for half a game.

That said, the base game appears to come with 4 base ship classes, which is kinda 1 more than they did with  Battlefront II (2017).
From BF2 (2017) they had
Interceptor (A-Wing ; TIE/IN Interceptor)
Fighter (X-Wing ; TIE/In Fighter)
Bomber (Y-Wing ; TIE/sa Bomber)
And now we have a 4th base class
Transport / Gunship (U-Wing ; TIE/rp Reaper Attack Lander)

These are cool, but I'm little disappointing to not see a "Heavy Fighter" class covering the B-Wing and TIE/D Defender. So hopefully we may see that in a DLC, as these ships often seem to get forgotten, with a couple of exceptions in the X-Wing Series of games. Heck, that would also give a Squad of 5, 5 different ships. 😉

Another thing I'd like to see would be Not just different Multiplayer modes, but also singleplayer with bots (As I'm not a fan of games geared towards Multiplayer). However the modes I'd like to see in Singleplayer and Multiplayer would be:
Classic Dogfights, both in teams and "every one for themselves".
Assault, 2 teams -  Defenders, Attackers. As in the Battlefront II (2017) Starfighter Assault. Objective based.
CTF, Trust me, Capture the Flag in a Starfighter Sim works. Just take a look back at Battlefront II (2005). It was a GOOD game mode.

VIP, similar to Assault except the target is just one specific ship or player on the defenders team. This would also be a great mode to have players use Hero Ships.
King of the Hill, Again another mode you don't think "Starfighter" with, but it can work. similar to VIP, however it's a "every one for themselves", all hunting to be the top of the scoreboard, but to get there, you have to take down the King. but be careful, because if you are at the top, you are the King. And like VIP, good for Hero Ships.

Well that's all I have for now, and even if it doesn't all come to be, I would probably still play the game. But these are just my ideas what could REALLY expand the staying power of the game, and also enhance the game just that little bit. What are your ideas and thoughts? Anything you dislike or anything you would add? Maybe another type of ship class?

  • I'm a little disappointed in the lack of diversity for the ships seen thus far, two of which aren't space-worthy at all, unless there are elements to the gameplay in which you can or have to get out of your ship.

    So far we have:

    Scouts

    RZ-1 A-Wing/TIE Intercepter

    Strike Fighters

    T-65 X-Wing/TIE Fighter

    Bombers

    TIE Bomber

    Gunships

    BTL Y-Wing

    Transports

    UT-60D U-Wing/TIE Reaper

Mind you, the Transports could be modified to work differently than their designers intended. This isn't the first time this has occurred in the Star Wars Universe. A predecessor to the TIE Shuttle (M-7 Razorwire) was used a bomber of sorts during the years of the Sith Empire. Thus it is of no coincidence that the TIE Shuttle does in fact resemble a TIE Bomber.

It would have been nice to have a little more variety within each class. Imperial players don't even have a Gunship, even though they do possess a counterpart to the Y-Wing in the lore (Xm-1 Nova Wing). And Rebel players don't even have a Bomber, like the B-Wing, or their counterpart to the TIE Bomber, the H-60 Tempest (predecessor of the B-Wing.)

There are numerous ships in the lore, some never seen outside of their source material, that would have made wonderful additions to this game. Galactic Starfighter for the MMORPG, Star Wars: The Old Republic, has enough variety to make X-Wing Alliance blush a little, and each and every one of its ships is a direct predecessor to something that existed during the Galactic Civil War and beyond. They could have easily taken a page right out of GSF and made a Galactic Civil War version of it. That game mode not only allows you to customize your ships, but also your character. It offers more as a game mode than Squadrons does as a stand alone game, as far as I know. So I ask, what staying power will Squadrons have? Will EA support this title after release, something I don't recall them ever doing? Will they even get it right to begin with, something I'm also not accustomed to when it comes to EA?
