How did you go back to save after pushing them off? The platform I use to get on the sarcophagus disappears for me once I get on top of it. I cant find a way to get back to the save point without killing myself and that's not fixing it.

You have to use force push from the rocky cave area (the edge you jump off of to get to the sarcophagus is what I believe you're calling the platform, iluminaldy). If you jump to the sarcophagus, it's game over.
You also cannot push all the troopers off - you must keep the baton trooper alive before you reset. So, when you go back and rest, it should only be respawning 3 troopers.
It's beyond bizarre, I know, but that's the only thing that worked for me.
