When playing in VR the target highlights (white box, red dots, etc) are not attached to the targets but instead are floating in space.  The will move around when I move my head as if there is some sort of swivel or focal point between my cockpit and the targets.

It works fine in normal non-VR mode.

There was an older issue posted on this but it has been flagged as "solved".  Unfortunately it has not been.

I am fully up to date with the new 3.0 release.  This issue has been there since the beginning.

I have tried what others have suggested such as windowed mode, borderless windowed mode, changing resolution, changing refresh rate, putting tape over my headset's prox sensor, etc.  Nothing has corrected this for me.

  • I had the same problem initially when the game came out, and it seemed to go away after some patches (was always intermittent), and then the other day (post patch 3.0) it was back.

I notice that when it occurs it is (for me) accompanied by the menu screen having the circles/hex overlay thing that normally only appears as a backdrop in non-VR mode. If that's there, then the target markers detatch in game also.

Currently it's working correctly - and the only thing I did was drop my Super Sampling from 60% to 50% so maybe try a different SS setting (though I'm sure I've run on that setting before without issue). Though that could also have been unrelated as I haven't tried setting back to 60% to try to replicate.

  • I am having this exact issue too. I am running the 4.0 game update with a HP Reverb G2 headset. Makes the game kinda unplayable in VR.

  • ok I fixed this issue of the targeting hud.  It was a hardware issue with my Reverb G2 headset.  The audio and mic connection was cutting out momentarily and then reconnecting due to crappy mobo usb x570 port issues and this headset.  When it cut out and reconnect it would cause the targeting HUD issue.  I saw this happen in real time in a game.  I have since plugged my headset into a powered pci USB card rather than a mobo usb port and this issue has been solved for me.  Hope this helps others point them in the right direction.

Only ever had this happen one time. It happened when I took my headset off at the end of a match and didnt put it back on again till the next match started. Somehow the hud elements from the previous match remained on my display. Taking the headset off, letting it auto shutoff and then putting it on again fixed. Maybe a completely different issue but was def weird.

  • Playing fine for two months and suddenly, yesterday I get this same issue, it's horrible. I have tried everything, uninstalled steam, uninstalled SW:S (twice), Windows 10 is up to date, SW:S is fully up to date (4.1?). The only common denominator with people complaining about this (ever) seems to be SteamVR. I've tried all the rain dances people speak of and rebooted 100 times. Please make my targeting work again!
