Thanks for the sarcastically great start Origins, again.

Purchased a hard copy of Star Wars battlefront from the store today.  It included no disc and was given a key for a digital download.  Gee thanks a lot, like really what is the point here?  I am having flash backs of 1996 and your terrible rush of a still beta Ultima Online.  Some of us still like physical copies of the game.  I smell I rushed product that did not have time to be mastered and produced into hard copies.  Guess I will see have to see another time, because your servers are overloaded.   I need to "come back later" and try to download at another time.  Hold out on your purchases folks.

There are two different boxed versions available. One containing just a code and one with discs.

It is highly visible labeled on the cover as "digital download only" on the former version.

One reason EA is offering a boxed version without discs is to provide a more presentable digital version that can be used as a gift.

Another reason is that it's cheaper per unit to not include a disk and that adds up over a few million copies. ;^)

..and it is of course more environmentally friendly. 🙂

  • Very true. Disks have all that nasty thousand year half life plastic and such whilst a paper card with some biodegradable ink are gone in the wink of an eye back to nature. Profits always feel more warm and snuggly when you can add in some green movement appeasement. ;^)

Same story here.  I like the disks, faster to install.. for me, thats why I went to GameStop to reserve a physical copy.  When I picked it up he said EA is not doing disks.  Love the fact I was charged an extra $5. to hold a piece of plastic with a digital download number.  Why was it an option then not delivered?  And the servers are bogged down for download, I'm at 81% after 12hrs.

  • Looks like gamestop lied to you then as there are boxed sets with disks. It's possible gamestop chose not to stock any.
