They really need to optimize the VR part of this game. That's the first game I have to lower graphics at max and it still not reaching my 90Hz headset (CV1). With those low settings I feel like I have 2 gameboy color taped to my eyes...
The latest patch fixed my issues with headtracking stuttering after 10 minutes. Now I can fully enjoy the experience. Thanks EA!

really? i just spent the evening updating everything i could think, and even faffed around with the settings again following the advice above, switch my graphics card over... nothing i do makes any difference
- 5 years ago
Did you try to change the "vr graphic" settings away from AUTO ??
yeah i set it to ultra like you said, I have a quadro RTX 6000 i use for work so I'm pretty sure its not a performance issue. Its not current generation and its a bit of a weird card to have i guess. But it behaves the exact same way as my 1080ti gtx. I didn't try dropping all the settings to low, might try that at lunch time if i get a chance

Still got the 12 minute stutters here. I haven't been able to stop them again for the last 24 hours.

After some more tinkering I gave up on the Link connection and instead opted to go the Virtual Desktop route. The experience for me is MUCH better. However, I know this option is not viable for the majority of folks based on router location, internet speeds, bandwidth, etc.
If you have a powerful gaming PC/Laptop, 5 GHz frequency gigabit network, have good signal and minimal WIFI traffic, then Virtual Desktop runs perfect. I do not get any input lag or headtracking stuttering. There is no difference in graphics quality between the Link and Virtual Desktop experience. The only limiting factor is your wireless network which will have an impact on latency.
All of that being said, this issue is still persistent when hardwired via Quest Link. I believe some of the developers said Version 2.0 is on the horizon next week or so. I know they haven't formally addressed the issue, but fingers crossed they have been looking at the forums and are working on this.

I've been testing v2 for a while. Unfortunately the headtracking stutters are still there and they are now starting at about 8 minutes into a game.

Played last night after latest update - still a thing on the Origin version (Quest1 via Link). Performance/smoothness outside the cockpit is fine though.
Yes the same for me - outside of cockpit animation is smooth, it's just the head movement that become slow and stuttery (Quest 1 + Link)

Just checking in again, has there been any developments? I havent bee able to try for a couple weeks while I wait for a replacement controller
- 5 years ago
No improvement yet, even with the following and the latest squadrons patches. Still starts around 8-12 mins into flight.
I'm now using the Quest 1 with USB 3 (confirmed in Oculus device settings as USB 3) and have upgraded to Link v23 on headset and PC.
For quest 1 users reading this, the above has improved FPS and clarity in all games I've tried. Even with the VR rendering at 5408 x 2976 the performance is better than prior Link versions, so it's worth doing. It needs USB 3 to function though.

The commonality was indeed Quest1 over link... will try the update. Interestingly I have 2 friends with Quest2’s and they havent had a problem. Thanks!

Just tried v3. The 10 minute stuttering is still there unfortunately
- 5 years ago@danface15 Have the quest 2, stutter is still an issue for me as well.
Just tried v4 and the stutter still occurs at the 10 minute mark (Quest 1 + Link)
Out of the 6 VR games I play, this is the only one I've ever experienced this in

just updated everything and now it's all smooth and working for me, i hope it is too for you all!

What's really odd for me in VR is that if I have the game as the active window in VR, it stutters, when I task out somewhere else and keep playing, the stutters are gone and the framerate remains great. I turned on background sound in order to have the game still produce sound when it isn't the active window. As soon as I task back into the game, it will start stuttering again for some reason. So I basically have to play it without being focused on the game. This is on the HP Reverb G2, RTX 3090, Core i7 9900K, 64GB RAM.
By the way, why can't I play the game directly via Windows Mixed Reality over Origin anymore? It always starts SteamVR now, before one of the last patches it would use WMR directly when SteamVR wasn't running.

actually it does still happen to me occasionally, not sure what happens, but if i do a fresh reboot, open steam and oculus apps then launch link and the game then it seems to work fine

Dear Dogmanbird, I tested your settings. Unfortunately there is no positive effect (using a Rift S) on my system (Ryzen r5 3600, 16 GB ram, Nvidia RTX 3070). Stuttering still occurs after a few minutes mainly in online fleet battles. Devs please search for a solution. This bug renders VR fleet battles unplayable.
- 5 years ago@Cave_Waverider I have the same issue.
Dear Mods and Devs,
since we didn't hear anything from you about the VR stuttering in online fleet battles. I wanted to ask for a status. To my knowledge the majority of VR players still observes heavy stuttering after a while in online fleet battles. Other modes are hardly or not affected. The stuttering mainly occurs after a respawn. This can happen sooner or later in a online match. I recorded one of my last matches (unfortunately only possible in 60 fps, in 80 fps it feels even worse) and cut it to show you what happens after death and respawn. Please have a look at the video after I died and selected an A-wing. The stuttering is very prominent when flying around the corvettes and turning my head. Since this happens nearly everytime in online fleet battles, they are unplayable in VR.
A feedback of you would be highly appreciated.
My PC specs: Ryzen R5 3600 - ASUS Dual OC Geforce RTX 3070 8GB VRAM - 16 GB RAM - 1 TB SSD - B450 Mainboard. Settings: Everything on high or ultra besides volumetric fog, which was set to medium. Resolution scaling was set to 1.1.
- 5 years ago@grandmasterseppe Overclocking my RAM from 2400 to 2800MHz made a world of difference on my system
- 5 years ago@M3GATR0N361 Thanks for the hint. I have 3000 MHz DDR4 Ram which was running at lower speed first. Shortly before your answer I activated A-XMP and tried a online match. Stuttering still occurs. The only thing which improves the situation is to lower vr resolution scaling to 0.8 (standard scaling before patches). In this case the game can tolerate more death/respawn cycles until the stuttering occurs. I have the feeling that there is a memory management problem. However looking at VRAM usage does not indicate something special. Did you get rid of the stuttering at all? Is anyone owning a graphics card with more than 8 GB VRAM and not experiencing the stuttering?
- Cave_Waverider5 years agoRising Ace
@grandmasterseppe Nah, I've got an RTX 3090 with 24GB VRAM and 64GB of System RAM, Core i9 9900K CPU, NVMe SSDs and still get the stuttering in VR (HP Reverb G2). In flatscreen mode (3840x2160 resolution, graphics options maxed) there is no issue. That said, the VR resolution is quite a bit higher than that, although even lowering it really low doesn't seem to get rid of the stutters in VR completely.
What I also notice that at times, my VR view seems to be resetting to completely insane angles.
- 5 years ago@Cave_Waverider Thanks for your reply. There is definitely something wrong with online fleet battles. EA please have look at this issue. It is a pity that the main online mode is plagued by these issue.
