Windows 10 performance decrease

I have been using Windows 8 up until today when I decided to upgrade to Windows 10. On Walker Assault/Supremacy, I was able to pull 38-39 FPS easily, playing on "High" settings (I used ~performanceoverlay.drawfps 1), with 34-35 FPS on Endor.

When I tried playing Battlefront now, I'm barely pulling 30 FPS on Hoth and Tatooine. Has this happened to anyone else? Or is this just my computer? Any idea what's causing the ~10 FPS drop?

EDIT: So here's the trend I'm noticing: restart computer, play Battlefront: it works perfectly, with frame rates at around 40FPS.  I close the game and open it again.  Frame rates are now barely above 30, and flying is choppy as heck and AT-ST/AT-AT movement looks like stop motion photography.  What is causing this to happen?

  • I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game (but haven't had time to check whether or not it worked), so I'll check to see whether or not that worked tonight.  If not, then maybe I'll look into doing a clean install (assuming I still can- my 1-month "revert back to 8.1 grace period" is almost up).

Sure enough, uninstalling and reinstalling did not work.  I restarted my computer, and the game ran perfectly (but I've seen this trend before- it works once after restarting, then goes back to its crappy self).  Closed the game, opened it again, and sure enough, frame rates were back to 30FPS, making flying nigh impossible and making AT-ST movement look like stop motion.

Worth noting that the ONLY thing that does not work properly on my system is Battlefront- absolutely everything else works like a charm.  While I could do a clean install of Win 10, I have a very hard time believing that would do anything.

A clean install of Win10 could help, but it is alot of work.  What is the current display driver you are running?  Are you running 361.43?

Ok.  I actually just had a friend with FPS issues on BF3, but other games worked fine.  I had him roll back to 359.00 and this solved his issue.  Try rolling back and see if that helps.

First, download the Nvidia 359.00 Driver (this is the Win10 64-bit version) and save it somewhere you will remember where it is.  Next, uninstall your current driver with DDU.  After it is uninstalled / removed, REBOOT your PC.  After you load back in, you will probably be in a weird resolution (1360 x 768), but don't worry, this will be normal since you uninstalled your driver.  Now find your 359.00 driver you downloaded before and install this.  After it is installed, REBOOT the PC again.  Go into your PC settings and change your resolution back to what it was before (most likely 1920 x 1080, but whatever you had before).  Try playing the game again and see if your frames go back to normal.

I followed your instructions to the letter- used the download link you gave me, ran DDU (which restarted my computer automatically), didn't have to change the resolution, installed the new (technically old, but you know what I mean) driver, and then restarted my computer.

    No dice.

Computer completely crashed the second and third time I tried launching it (although I actually made it into the loading screen of a game before my computer bit it the second time), and just got this same error my fourth attempt.  The conclusion I'm drawing is that 359.00 (as I was suspecting) is not compatible with Battlefront anymore.

Might as well post an update-

downgraded back to Windows 8.1 and the game works like a charm, every time.  Pulling an easy 35-40FPS at all times, and the game is buttery smooth.

So here's what happens, on Windows 10:

    1. I restart my computer.

    2. Battlefront runs perfectly fine.

    3. Close Battlefront.

    4. Open Battlefront.

    5. I'm barely pulling 25-30FPS, flying is choppy as heck and AT-ST/AT-AT movement looks like stop motion.

Repeat steps 3 and 4 unlimited times and Battlefront will continue to be choppy.  Only solution is restarting my computer.... every single fricking time I want to play.

Does anyone know why this is happening, or how to fix this?
