Audio drops out every few seconds (but only in full screen?!) PLEASE HELP!!
Hello all,
I just bought SW:JS via the EA app. I've updated the app. and the game to latest versions. I also have installed all the latest Windows and hardware driver updates. The game itself runs fine on my rig, however the audio drops out for a second every 10-20 seconds. I've tried every fix I can find on the Internet and nothing has worked. The most curious/infuriating thing is that the game and sound plays FINE if I have the display mode set to Window mode, or if I go to task manager and let the game run continue to run in the background. However, as soon as I go back to any kind of full screen mode the audio goes straight back to dropping out for a second every 10-20 seconds again!!
I don't know how I managed it, but I spent HOURS playing around with all the display modes, and eventually 'it just worked', so I played the game to the first planet where I have to 'find Greez', quit the game, opened it today, (haven't changed ANY settings since it worked) and the problem is back. As mentioned, I've tried EVERY fix I can find on the Internet and nothing has worked. Jedi: Fallen Order worked flawlessly, (audio and video) with the same rig, so I just can't understand it. It's so annoying that I know the audio CAN work fine, but I refuse to play the whole game in 'window' mode and I don't see why simply making the game full screen affects the audio playback. All my other games work fine too.
For those still reading, I've tried:
Updating all my drivers for the whole PC (as mentioned above)
Verifying game integrity
Changing audio settings to various different file formats, e.g. CD quality, 320kps, etc.
Turning off atmos/audio enhancements
Disabling Nhamic audio driver
Closing all non-essential background processes
Changing screen resolution/lowering game settings
Changing refresh rate on monitor
Turning off HDR via Windows settings
A bunch of other things
My PC is well above the game's min. specs. I'm using an AVR as a ghost monitor for sound, but every other game has had no audio issues, so I don't think that's the problem. I have an ATI 7900 XTX GPU and use the inbuilt audio. I have a RealTek audio driver listed in Device Manager too (but I don't really know why that's there).
As mentioned I have no issues with any other games with my PC setup, and JS does play sound fine, (once so far!) with whatever settings I use, as long as I don't use any full screen mode, (which is of course exactly how I want to play the game!!) or else the audio drop outs occur again. (I have also tried switching from windowed to full screen using ALT+Enter, but it didn't help).
I'm happy to provide any further info. if people want more specifics to help me solve this very irritating problem. I know the game is famously poorly optimized and riddled with bugs but I have gotten it to work a few times, I just want to understand the issue so I can fix it consistently.
If anyone can help me fix/work around it I'll dance at your wedding. Many thanks in advance for any helpful fixes/suggestions. Peace and love y'all 🙂
