DS4 Controller not responding correctly

Since 17/01/24 when the EA app apparently updated, Jedi Survivor has been -unplayable- with my Playstation DS4 controller.

I bought my copy of the game through Steam and had 30 hours of play time absolutely fine with a PS4 controller, it was fully supported in game with button prompts. Since the 17th however, attempting to do anything on the controller in game results in flickering inputs, steam keyboard interruptions and other issues. In short, controller support is suddenly bricked.

I have tried disabling steam input, I have tried adding the EA Desktop app through steam but that ends up giving me Xbox controller inputs which annoy the hell out of me. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game and the EA app, I tried reverting to the old Origin app, I have tried -everything- and still this * useless EA app has borked my * game!

Does anyone have a solution so that I can continue to play the game with a PS4 controller and -with- Playstation inputs?

Any help is much appreciated

Hopefully, you removed Origin, as that will mess things up.

You don't happen to have a keyboard/mouse plugged in at the same time as a controller, do you? That will cause issues.

You might consider disabling all overlays (including the one in EA app) for troubleshooting.

  • Once I started up Origin, it just forced an auto update to the EA app anyway, there's no further trace of Origin on my system.

I do have a mouse and keyboard connected, it hasn't been a problem up until now. Alas, disconnecting them didn't solve the issue, the game still would not fully recognise the DS4 controller. Clicking the left analog stick for some reason brings up the onscreen keyboard and the inputs just flicker and don't respond to any commands.

  • I have the exact same issue. For me it presents as such:

The game thinks I am using mouse and keyboard while I'm using a controller. So the in-game prompts change from X/Y/A/B to "enter" or different symbols/prompts. The controller input for entering into the menu translates to a backwards dash. When I press "B" to go back in the menu it trips up/flips out. It wants to translate multiple inputs at the same time. The audio signals as much, giving me at least 3, maybe 4 or more "clicks".

    Here's what I tried:

    • Unplugging keyboard and mouse and other peripherals, just to check if these were causing it. No solution, the issue persists.
    • Different controllers, checking if the controller is faulty. No solution, the issue persists.
    • Tried the same controller on different games. No issue. So this proves it is not the controller.
    • Checking file integrity through the Steam app. No solution, the issue persists.
    • Uninstalling the game and reinstalling through Steam. No solution, the issue persists.
    • Checking for Windows updates and GPU updates. No solution, the issue persists.
    • Raising a Help-desk ticket with EA. No solution, "we do not support your peripherals".

I really want to undo the latest patch, but EA support is no help. The game has become unplayable.

I've had a friend confirm this. Through Steam, they downloaded both Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor. Their controllers (DS4 and DS5) work both on Fallen Order. But Survivor provides the same issues as we are experiencing. So this seems to be the work of the new patch.

From what I understand, you should consider yourself lucky you didn't have issues before. Jedi Survivor was made for PS5 and does not officially support PS4 and related controllers. See this FAQ.

  • PLEASE tell me you’ve made some progress on this issue. Kills me that I can’t play this proper anymore.

My initial "fix" was to add the EA app to my Steam library. Start EA through Steam, then start Jedi through the EA app. This worked for a little bit. But after the latest update to the EA app this fix is also broken. I've now uninstalled the game and refuse to play for the coming 1-2 years. EA has screwed the pooch, so to say. There's enough non-EA games in my backlog. I'll try to come back to this game sometime in the future. Maybe.
