Hey EA why is Jedi Survivor still unplayable. You buffoons. You scoundrels.
(I should open this by saying my vitriol is purely targeted towards whatever higher ups made the working environment at EA so completely screwed as to push out what was clearly a not done game into the world due to what I’m sure must've been some crunch deadline. I hold no ill will towards the employees making and programming this game which I have heard from many many people is a prime example of taking all the good parts of the first game in a series and making them better as well as adding new, awesome things, and I must say the microscopic amount of this game I have been able to play made me literally excitedly go “Hoohoohooooo!” like a cartoon owl from the sheer joy at some of the new things I was able to see. I also mean no ill will towards whatever customer service person will inevitably read this. You do an impossible job for an insanely entitled customer base {people who play video games. I refuse to call them gamers because that's a dumb term used by the worst people I know} so please do not take any of the following snark and hostility as directed at you, just some venting that I’m sure the people who need to see it will never see)
So I hesitated to buy Jedi Survivor at launch because of the absolute clown show of performance issues described in various reviews on steam, so as is unfortunately my norm nowadays with new games at launch (and especially EA games) I decided to wait until patches were put in to make the game playable. Well last week I was playing Fallen Order, having fun, a blast even, and I thought "hey I should check and see if Jedi survivor is any better than launch." and I see a comment in the reviews section of Steam from November 22nd of this year saying they waited five months after launch and finally bought it on sale and they said it ran fine for them, but they lamented that it took them five months from launch for the game to be fixed enough for them to be able to play it. I agree it shouldn't take five months for a game to be playable after launch. Good on that steam review. I also ended up buying the game on sale, and when I checked my specs I saw that I was well above the minimum, and just short of the recommended specs (I have an Nvidia 2060 instead of a 2070. Sue me.) so I figured "I could probably run this at medium or high settings, why not give it a shot?". I began installation, which took hours (that's more of a problem on my end but it just feels right to mention because of this whole fiasco) and was finally able to launch it. I was met with a screen that said "EA needs to optimize your game files" and I barely had enough time to think "shouldn't that be done by the literal process of installing the game?" before it immediately crashed with an exception access violation. Ok, bad start, lets try again. This time the game was generous enough to let me get to the part in the beginning of the game where Cal begins to ambush the senator before the game crashed again with a different exception access violation code. I fiddled around with graphical settings, priority settings in windows task manager, etc., and I managed to make it to the second meditation point before the game once again crashed, once again with an exception access violation. I verified the game files on steam and somehow (the verification process showed that all files were accounted for) the game decided to work for several hours and I was able to get into the forest array area before I had to go to bed, sure that now it must be fixed, now I don’t have to worry about bugs and crashes anymore. But now it's just crashing on startup. I even updated the graphics driver and it didn't work. This is absolutely ridiculous for a game that costs $70 base (or if you're an idiot like me and got the deluxe edition, $90, thank god for steam sales). My computer isn't a crazy high end rig but its generally able to run most games at high or ultra settings, and I truly don't think having a graphics card that's juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust slightly below recommended but well above minimum should make this game completely unplayable for me.
