Intel Arc A770 - Shadows and Ray Tracing not working correctly

Product: STAR WARS Jedi: Survivor
Platform:PC
Summarize your bug I'm using an Intel Arc A770 GPU. Though general performance is very good, raytracing does not work correctly. When it is turned on in any outside planet (Koboh, Jedha), the shadows are way oversaturated (see attached image), and it's impossible to see where you are going. Also, not sure if this is related or not, but shadows are very bugged (see second image)
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Raytracing bug: Use an Intel A770 GPU. Turn Raytracing On and go to Jedha or Koboh. You will see it immediately. Shadow Details bug: Set shadow details on Medium or higher while on Koboh or Jedha. Setting it on low the problem happens minimally, and only slightly noticeable when you are climbing on a beam or something. COURUSANT WORKS PERFECTLY FOR BOTH ISSUES, testing there will yield no results. Other A770 owners have reported the same problem. See the bug report here on Intel's bug tracker by another user: https://github.com/IGCIT/Intel-GPU-Community-Issue-Tracker-IGCIT/issues/297
What happens when the bug occurs? When raytracing is on, anything that is not lit by the sun is pitch black, almost like the contrast is turned too high. When raytracing is turned off, the ground below Cal starts flickering rapidly in black squares. Turning shadow details to low has minimized the problem so that the game is playable.
What do you expect to see? I would like this bug fix to be included in a patch in the near future. I would also really appreciate a response so that I know this wasn't dismissed.

  • I too have been experiencing this problem with the shaders... However, I was wondering if this also corresponds to the graphical spasms that happen right after you leave the forest in Koboh?

  • Same guy here who started the github thread 🙂

Just want to add that actually the first Courusant level actually also has these bugs just to a lesser extent because of the environment type.

When you enter the dark areas where its basically showing you how to use your lightsaber for light, it is way darker than it should be with RT on, and you can find some areas where if you have shadows above low and RT off it will exhibit the same flickering squares issue that you see on the other plants.

Also, having finished the game on other hardware and re-tested on Arc, the shadows issue happens on pretty much every plant of the game, just some are more apparent than others.

Hopefully EA and Intel can work together to sort this, as it seems to be an Arc driver but rather than a game bug given that its fine on other cards, unless they worked around a game issue.

This absolutely hasn't been fixed and it's not exclusive to intel gpu either. I'm playing on 4090 and have rhe exact same problem. Game is a complete mess and still doesn't run at a stable frame rate in my 4090. It's like the devs don't even test the game.

  • Did you manage to find a fix? I spent another £15 to on ea play Pro to play this after hearing they released patch 7 and finally added dlss and frame gen which should habe been there day one. The game still stutters horribly even with vrr and frame gen enabled and still crashes on my 4090. Just seen that I'm now getting these black squares on shadow detail too and no way to fix it.
