I'm on Xbox series X, I have the same problem I can't even get past the opening cut scene before it overheats and shuts down. Nothing wrong with my consoles placement, no dust too! It's pretty much unplayable

Soo I'm a big believer in holding up your hands when your wrong, my apologies! It turns out I had a large build up of dust on my heatsink. Anyone having overheating on the Xbox series x check the back bottom left vent on your console. Get a torch and angle it up you can see the heatsink then and it might be you're having the same people I did! The game seems to be running absolutely fine and me console is as quiet as a mouse! I hope this helps some of you!
