JEDISURVIVOR.EXE FLAGGED AS MALWARE

Product: STAR WARS Jedi: Survivor
Platform:PC
Summarize your bug Bug or not, I'm not an IT expert: AVAST MOVED THE .EXE FILE TO QUARANTINE, FLAGGED AS CONTAINS MALWARE. Beside: the icon disappeared from desktop. Patch 5 didn't show up the usual way, I wanted to repair the game to prompt a download, but the option also disappeared.
How often does the bug occur? First time, right now.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Unsure
What happens when the bug occurs? No patch download prompt appears. Patch 3 worked by clearing cache; 4 worked only by repairing and re-downloading, by the time patch 5 arrived the exe got a malware designation.
What do you expect to see? The game what I paid 70 EUR shouldn't be treated as a virus for a start and patches should come nice and easy.

Yesterday the game worked "properly", when today I wanted to play I noticed the exe disappeared. I found it in quarantine. I restored and works - for now -, but how is it even possible?! I found others on Steam who had the same problem with earlier patches, no answer.

  • @GabrielleFaraway  Thanks for sharing that information.  The game isn't actually malware, as I'm sure you know, and Avast is known to be somewhat aggressive with other games as well.  (It's had a problem with Sims 4, on and off, for 2.5 years.)  Having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if the game included some automatic usage sharing.  It's also possible that one or more of the optimization improvements in the recent patches is more invasive than standard, in an attempt to make the game more stable, although that's just speculation.

At any rate, I'm sure Avast will fix the problem on its end soon enough.  If you're worried about usage sharing, put the EA App in offline mode before launching JS.  But be aware that that might block achievements as well.

@puzzlezaddict I never had problems with Avast - let alone noticing it would have the slightest impact on any of my games (and I have a lot). But I take this into consideration. Thank you for the info!
