"Optimizing game files" at every start of the game

Is this expected? If related to shader compilation, it ain't working because even Epic settings with Ray Tracing disabled is resulting in lighting and texture issues:

That was not the case before the 3.5 patch. The above video isn't mine but I have the exact same specs: 7950X, 6800 XT, Windows 11 Pro, and if I run the game with Ray Tracing disabled, it looks really bad. Not to mention the trees and objects in the distance that are now popping in. Please fix it.

A steam user discovered a solution for this problem:

Just go to AppData\Local\SwGame\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor, open GameUserSettings.ini, go to the last line (LastOpened=SwGame) and change SwGame with Test.

They noted that you should change it back after game or driver updates.

After I did this, the game started in under a minute. I can't speak for performance issues yet but this is an incredible improvement.

After modifying the line [ShaderPipelineCache.CacheFile] LastOpened=Test, you have to mark the GameUserSettings.ini file as read-only to prevent it from showing the shader compilation again at each start. With this it is resolved forever. If you update the drivers, you must set LastOpened=SwGame again.

    Thanks mate, it works!

I'm using Epic Games and EA launcher, the solution works for this combination as well.

  • Okay so it's been 3 months since last patch, still no fix for this big bug ? What is Remedy doing ?

  • Remedy is probably continuing developing great games! :D You mean Respawn. ^^

  • I got the game on sale this week, remembering the first game was quite alright. This one has apparently worse optimization and I'm sporting a better rig...I already noticed a bunch of small bugs and glitches so far. Nothing game breaking but the stuttering startup and files compiling, reticking the license agreement and some other excessive options are becoming irritating.

This does not feel like an AAA of a decade ago, but an early access product they just released and forgot about it. Maybe that's why I don't bother buying them at full price anymore, because they're always half-done :D

  • Steam user Poet had the only working solution:

"I was able to fix this by following these steps instead:

    1. Right-click folder "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts" and click Properties. Uncheck the "read only" checkbox

    2. Right-click the Jedi Survivor game files, mine were under "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Jedi Survivor" and click Properties. Same as above, uncheck "read only" checkbox.

    3. Start Jedi Survivor with the EA launcher, not Steam.

Once I did that, it worked every time, and could be launched with steam as normal.

Pro-tip as noted earlier in this thread: If you want to speed up startup even more, go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Jedi Survivor\SwGame\Content\Movies" and rename the two "Default_Statup" movie files. This causes the game to skip the startup movie sequences slightly"

I tried the other one where I had to change "GameUserSettings.ini" file but didn't work, only the above instruction did.

  • [replying to ARC-01313] This method didn't work for me. But the pro-tip worked. Unsure how/why it wants to optimize. I mean, we're using computers to play these games - you'd think a computer could remember things.
