" Failed to load icudt library " (CEF Initialization error)

Hello,

I have a problem with launching my 'Star Wars: The Old Republic' client.

Whenever I try to start the launcher, I get the following error: 'CEF Initialization Error: Failed to load icudt library.'

The launcher does not start, I only get this error message.

So far I've tried the following things with no result:

  • Updated all my drivers (Nvidea, Dvix...)
  • Restarted my computer
  • Disabled my antivirus
  • Redownloaded and set up the SWTOR launcher over my existing folder
  • Deleted the old folder and tried to start the SWTOR install from scratch.

Whatever I do, I keep getting this error. I went through older forum posts about this issue, but they all recommend redownloading the launcher.

Since this did not help, I don't see any other option. Could anyone please tell me what I have to do to resolve this issue?

I really love SWTOR and would love to keep playing, but this is  unfortunately not possible right now.

Thank you in advance for your help.

You can cut that file out of the syswow64 folder and put it in say your documents folder for now, it is keep it until you know for sure no other program needs it, then it can be deleted.

If you use the repair utility does that help ? Here

This is likely an issue with the chromium framework, why is the question now

Can also do a search for the following files outside of game folders

if they exist in common windows folders like SYSWOW64 , cut them out and place in a temp folder somewhere, they should be contained in the program folders, if different versions exists it can cause conflicts

avcodec-53.dll, avutil-51.dll and libcef.dll are the likely first ones of CEF to search for

    Hi,

    Thank you for your answer.

I'm afraid I do not entirely understand what you want me to do.

I've found the three dll-files that you've mentioned, but I'm not sure what I have to do with them.

I have also tried installing the Launcher Repair Utility into my SWTOR file (which is not in the default location but on an external drive, no problem with it before this).

However, it still gives the 'Failed to load icudt library' error.

Thanks again in advance for your help.

CEF is the Chromium embedded framework (CEF)

now in the game folder you should have the following CEF files

    avcodec-53.dll

    avformat-53.dll

    avutil-51dll

    chrome.pak

    libcef.dll

icudt.dll  <-- this isn't CEF but is related

Do any of these files exist in say c:\windows\syswow64 folder for example ?

    @proxos666

I indeed found the libcef.dll file in the SysWOW64 folder.

If I understand your previous post correctly, you want me to put it in a temp folder? Can you tell me where exactly and what I'd hav to do with it after that?

I apologize for seeming a bit slow, I'm not very experienced with troubleshooting, but wiling to learn.

I would appreciate a step-by-step breakdown, if you have the time.

Thank you in advance for your advice.
