Character Freeze

If your Character freezes is there a small red X besides the Mini Map?

I'm not sure, I've never seen one before but can't be for certain.

Basically, in the middle of fighting, my character and my character alone will freeze. None of my keys will work and the mouse won't work, but everything from other players, my companion, and the enemy characters will keep going.

Sounds very much like a lag spike or temporary disconnection. First thing I'd do is follow the Connection Troubleshooting here. It's for disconnections, but it does apply to lag spikes as well.
