Credit card hack

I am just posting this to warn people using a credit card to pay their subscription and the folks of EA/Bioware. I received an alert today from my bank that my credit card was used in an illegal attempt to pay for an item without my consent. The item price was above the credit limit so my bank blocked the payment and my card. I have not used the card anywhere but here to my knowledge so it is highly possible that either hackers were able to get the information from the billing portion of this website or from my credit card company Mastercard. So be warned and make sure no illegal payments were made to prevent the hassle of dealing with these scumbags that are attempting to get your hard earned cash.

I have thus switched to Paypal payments with SWTOR until this is sorted out.

Another thing to do is just buy the subscription codes from some place like Amazon.  After purchase, the codes just appear on your screen and you copy and paste them to the swtor website.

A few folks have stated on the support forums that they still pay every time their subscription is due but then remove their credit card from swtor's backend so the card number isn't on file.

One thing not to do is a chargeback.  BW's policy is to immediately close out your account and from forum discussions, this is irreversible.

    Hope this helps

edit: You didn't say but was the purchase for something in game or elsewhere like online or at some brick and mortar location?

The purchase was made on some site on the internet that sells replica swords, daggers and such. Like i mentioned they went above the allowed limit and thus the money was not taken from my bank account.

I actually had to switch to my credit card because of rules and regulations that were changed in my country; i can only allow a company to take money straight out of my account with a signature on a piece of paper. It's 2016 and that's how it goes down in my country again, feels like we are taking a step back. So yes it did happen once that the subsciprion fee was charged back by my bank but not on my request. I can understand that EA doesn't like that but to close an account when that happens is a bit too much when it happens the first time, it should just go to free to play. I did sort it out at the time by paying by credit card but that doesn't feel like an option either anymore until EA or my credit card figures out how the criminals got my information. They probably won't even look into it, but i hope they will.
