Well this has been going on for months. I think it started happening with 372.90. I think that is the version that they changed wddm to 2.1 or something?
I can't remember if I tried anything before the above version.
I played yesterday with shaders very low grass and tree quality/distance set on 0 and had to kill the game constantly to stop freezing. I also turned off anti-aliasing and it seemed to help a little bit but I still get freezing fits.
I will try un plugging my other monitor tonight and see if that helps.
I am just at a total loss. I really don't want to have to reinstall windows because i only have this issue in swtor. Should I see about installing direct x9 on my computer instead of it being an emulation? I have also reinstalled swtor multiple times and didn't help at all.
You can install this directx redist (link)
Maybe go to the slow ring on windows insider - the time you mentioned this started was whgen this thread issue started but whilst it was affectingn single cards to begin with , it was fixed in a later windows release and was more confined to SLI systems now
There is also an issue with 980s i have seen , given the 970 is a cut down version not sure if affected as well for some see this link

So moving down to 1 monitor, It kind of helped.. Was more of the freezing wasn't super bad but eventually it got to the point of it locking up.
Ill try moving to the slow ring (not sure what this does completely?) and the 980 fix mentioned. I wonder if my card thinks its in SLI mode when i don't have another card.

is switching physics to my cpu really a good idea? That is the suggested fix in that link...

So that didn't help the issue when running two monitors... trying a longer test with 1 monitor to see if it is better.
I am sooo lost at this point.

update: using physX on cpu and 1 monitor (big or small) i still recieve the constant freezing issue. Especially when fighting.
I am going to try the direct x 9 install.
NOTE: This only happens with swtor.. other games that are more graphic intensive run fine with 0 issues.

One thing havent looked at What sort of temps for CPU and GPU are being recorded ? if nothing to use try hwinfo (link)
play in window mode if need to make it easier to monitor, after the game is running for a bit.
swtor makes a great stress test , people assume newer games are more demanding when that isn't the case.

In the reliability monitor is there anything besides swtor recorded ?
Just to test ram isnt the underlaying cause are you able to pull a stick and run on 8gb and then swap around to test the remaining stick (assuming this isnt a single stick.
acking this is just exhibited in swtor at present but given what you have tried , this is something different

only thing in reliability for today is SWTOR and xbox one smart glass app. crashing (which i didnt open the xbox one app).
Ill try taking 1 ram stick out
